We are going to Lyon the second weekend in May, and have found som good offers from Mercure. Which of the Mercure hotels except Le Royal Lyon would you recommend?

How is the Hilton and Radissonsas hotels?

we had a DO at the Lyon Hilton and its wonderful. a little bit outside city center (15min by bus/tram/metro) but next to a wonderful park ... I can recommend it. nice, new hotel.

The Radisson is the former LeMeridien, its the highest building in the city and hotel starts at 30th floor IIRC. older and smaller rooms, but a nice bar worth the visit in the evening to enjoy view all over Lyon.

We stayed at the Radisson for Valentine's Day (or week-end, actually) last year and found it great ! The location is very convenient, right by the Part-Dieu train station, and the panoramic view is amazing.

This seems to be mostly a business travel hotel so they had a week-end deal at 99 euros / night compared to 249+ euros normal week rate (IIRC).

For a little splurge, the OP may wish to consider Hotel Cour des Loges in the Old Town. It is a hotel constructed out of 3 adjoining buildings dating as far back as the 12th century. The decor is more moderne and has a great location.
The Head Concierge is one of the best in the region.

The Hilton is a nice property as well.

I've stayed at the Grand Hotel Mercure Chateau Perrache (yes, I've stayed at all this ), and found it nothing short of fantastic. It's a magnificent building, and I somehow got upgraded to what must have been a deluxe room on a very high (if not the top) floor with a stunning view of the whole city. On a rate of �65 per night!
For random dates in June, I'm seeing �117 for the deluxe double and, if you want to splash out, �240 for the 50m2 suite!
Just don't pay the �13 (or whatever) per person for breakfast; there are numerous caf�s nearby that will do excellent coffee+croissants and give you change from a �5. And be reasonable at night (don't linger around too long, take a taxi if arriving after 23:00 or so), because it's next to the train station. Wouldn't really call it a dangerous area, but you need to remain focused.

This thread couldn't be more timely, as I've just decided to go to Lyon at the end of June. My first choice was the Cour des Loges, but unfortunately it's booked for my dates. The Villa Florentine is out because some friends, one of whom could not handle the steps, will be joining me for part of my stay. What's the next best choice? I'd like something with a good location convenient to Old Lyon and the Roman amphiteatre at Fourviere, where I believe the performances I'm attending will take place.
I'd actually been looking at the Royal, and am curious about the OP's comments; I've read the reviews on TripAdvisor and it doesn't sound that bad (and I'm assuming they could get me a reservation at Paul Bocuse!) What about the (I think it's new or newish) Sofitel?
I'll look into the Perrache and Radisson discussed above; I don't think the Hilton's location would work well for me.

i would consider staying at and eating at georges blanc. out of town, but worth the trip.

I stayed at La Tour Rose in the Old Town, about 2 blocks from Cour des Loges, a few years back. It's quite an intimate property with a very good restaurant. Each room is decorated with the fabric from a different Lyonaise fabric house.

Slawecki, thanks. Georges Blanc would be wonderful, as would Bagnols, but I won't have a car and getting back and forth to and from performances could be a problem.

Beautiful place indeed, located in one the most enjoyable district of Lyon.

I was alone and trying to save money for the amazing Michelin starred restaurants of Lyon. Thus, I booked the simplest room they had on offer. It was fine, spacious for one and adequate for two. I'm afraid I've no idea what the other rooms were like.

Is La Tour Rose still open? I cant seem to find their web site?

I stayed here last year...very nice hotel in the innenstadt right above a plaza where you can park your car. Everything was within easy walking distance, as Lyon is fairly compact, and you are also close to the train stations as well as tram lines.

The room and bed/bath were exceptionally comfortable. I'd stay here again, and would recommend it.

I have lived in Lyon for my whole life and I can say that the best place to stay here is either in the Vieux Lyon or the Presqu'ile...staying outside the city is pointless...I recommend the Hotel le Royal on the Place Bellecoeur....make sure to see all the sites!
