I like the very inexpensive Hotel van Onna in Amsterdam. It's clean, very friendly, but plain (resin table next to the bed!). But I only paid about US$ 32 per night. And you'll love Loek van Onna, the owner.
This is a non-smoking hotel. And it doesn;t stink of mold or must like many other Amsterdam hotels do.
I walk there from Centraal Rail station in about 12 minutes. there is also a tram that goes close to the hotel.
Oh, yes, no phones in the rooms and no credit card acceptance. And no elevator. Great breakfast is included, of course. I even got breakfast on arrival since no room was ready early on a Sunday morning. But I still love the place!
see the Hotel van Onna section of http://www.walp.dds.nl/accommodation...mmodation.html or call Loek at +31 20 626-58-01.
