I second the Air b'n'b suggestion https://www.airbnb.com/, having successfully used them on trips to New York and London.
You can choose the type of accommodation you want, where you want it, and at what price. A big plus is that owners are usually a fount of local knowledge on the best places to shop, eat etc.

A friend of mine recommended a place, called Le 1er Etage (http://www.1eretage.com) - I haven't stayed there myself, but they seem to offer apartments and are located in a very central spot, in the Marais.
