Aha! Odd they couldn't even produce MH boarding passes. MH is alliance partner. Jetstar actually states that they can produce boardingpass for their interline partners, so it seems Finnair is worse than Jetstar...

I am going to KUL too, but am forced to separate tickets as the HEL-SIN(AY) is award. Meaning I must prepare for a landside turn, which makes it more complicated despite the T1-T1 connection. Finnair arrives very late in the day and every now and then with an extra 1h delay, making it even more tricky. Jetstars last flight leaves 1:25 after Finnair scheduled arrival, it seems a bit tight for a landside turn :(

My experience end of Oct;
I was ticketed TLL-HEL-SIN (AY131), and had a seperate 3K (Jetstar) SIN-HKT ticket. Travelling with hand luggage only.
At both TLL and HEL was not able to pickup a BP for 3K.
Both my arrival into SIN and departure to HKT were both through T1 (though i was kindly informed by another FT that 3K is being forced to move to another terminal).
At the SIN Transfer Desk at T1 there was a single Jetstar desk and fortunately I was able to have my BP issued there, BUT, the guy at the desk told me it's not normal practice and don't do it again.
Looking down to the Immigration area at SIN I saw it was absolutely packed, there would have been no way I'd have made my flight if I'd been forced to clear customs and re-check in.

Seems we got the answer above. It is possible but not allowed due to current Singapore covid transfer rules.
1:25 is indeed tight for a landside transfer. Have you checked the late MH flight departuring after midnight? Would give you more time IF forced landside and lounge access if you have time for it. Downside is you'll arrive very late to KUL and the train to city doesn't run anymore.

It is, indeed. I know it’s not usual but my last immigration queue took 40mins at SIN, I wouldn’t book anything under 2hrs personally for landside transfer.

Finnair sells three options to KUL, all on a single ticket. And the jetstar, with the 1:25 connection time, isn't the shortest... They also sell the MH departure at 19:30 (codeshared as AY6617), ie a 1:15 connection. Pretty amazing since they can't produce boarding pass for it.

I can't find a MH departure after midnight, but there is a 21:20 departure, ie a 3:05 connection. So it looks like this is what I need.

I have an upcoming booking HEL-SIN-KUL with the 1:15 connection time to MH flight next month. Didn't even cross my mind when booking that AY wouldn't be able to print a boarding pass for the MH flight. I'll report back how it goes. Don't know if it makes a difference that both flights are AY coded.

AY should be able to print MH BPs.
Well not the day I was flying, in HEL they didn’t really know why but the lady at the transfer desk suspected it might have to with me "being stuck" on waiting list for the AY flight so MH system interpreted it as I was waitlisted for a ticket.
I wasn't kicked of at T-37 for some unknown reason.

I had MH610 departing 00.05.

Edit MH610 is the 21.20, apparently they have changed schedule recently.

Was flying same route this summer (SIN-KUL with MH) and had no problems printing both BPs in HEL. The HEL-SIN flight got delayed almost 3h tho, luckily I had a 5h connection :D

Let me clarify, I was ticketed seperately ie; AY TLL-HEL-SIN and 3K SIN-HKT and naturally different carriers.
If your flight is one booking one ticket, even if you don't get the BP at check-in, it should be no issue picking up final BP at SIN transfer desk.

intuition Nov 17, 2022 4:17 am

Reporting back, on a separate ticket transfer in SIN, AY to MH.

Pre HEL departure I had done online check-in in the MH app, with check-in procedure going through all the way, with "warning" that online BP could not be produced but to be picked up in SIN.

Arriving in SIN on AY131 ≈20 minutes late, like 18:40, at T1 gate D40-ish. D-pier transfer desk is literally a 2 minute walk, but alas it was closed and C-pier transfer was suggested. The trek from D transfer to C transfer is maybe 5-8 minutes in leisure tempo. Desk was well manned and line was short. <5 minutes wait.

Agent asked for incoming flight details and bag tag (had none as I was carry-on only) and did not want to see SG arrival card. As i was on a one way MH ticket to KUL, I was also asked my stay duration and if I had return flight arrangements. Some tapping and boarding pass produced, with QR platinum status visible, for gate D37.

Clocked in to Qantas first lounge (basically in the D-pier) at 19:00, ie the total time to get onwards BP including having to walk across entire T1 was 20 minutes. I would have made the 19:40 departure, despite AY late arrival and C-pier trek. *) But who is in a rsuh when there is QF first... ;)

*) AY131 can be 1h late too, so the 19.30-ish connections that Finnair sells are still risky

Does it suggest that it is possible to transfer airside even with baggage ? Transferring via SIN VN->AY on separate tickets and unfortunately have baggage. Booked 5hr layover just in case, but would like to anyway skip the landside trek if possible.

intuition Nov 17, 2022 7:41 pm

Addendum - Later on I noticed the MH boarding pass had a "present at the gate 40 minutes prior to boarding at the latest". This was because they did security screening at the gate. Now, the security screening didn't seem to close, at least 15 minutes before scheduled departure it was still open and accepting customers, but this could also be a factor for making a tight connection.

That was my impression. The two first words from the agent was: "Passport" and "Bag-tag".
The agent next to mine was doing stuff with someone's bag-tags, but I wasn't listening in on the conversation, so I have no idea about the details. So I cannot say for sure, maybe they are just checking bags are tagged to final or they won't process it as a transit.

SIN official policy is still is "one ticket, checked through bags", so the right thing is to prepare for landside transit and enjoy the moment if you can stay airside.

Under the government’s transit travel rules, passengers who arrive in Changi and plan to depart on a different airline, must have both flights booked in the same booking itinerary. Passengers must also have their checked-in luggage tagged-through from the origin airport to their final destination. Travellers who intend to enter Singapore during their layover need to meet the entry requirements for quarantine-free entry into Singapore. For more details, please visit the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority's website.

I read this as well and prepared accordingly. Will raise a drink for you if I manage to stay at the airside.
