Helsinki Airport things to do past 9pm

Um. I've just noticed I now have a long'ish layover between my ARN - HEL flight AY816 to my HEL - SIN flight AY131. AY816 lands at 2015 and AY131 departs at 2355 (when it's on time / never). Given the airport seems like it'll be a ghost town after 9 (when the last of the take out places close) what is one to do about food until a very delayed SIN flight?!

Choices are very limited, a couple of weeks ago the only thing that I found in the non-Schengen side after 9pm was a vending machine. If you need to buy something to eat, I actually recommend leaving the transit area and go buy something at the Alepa grocery store in arrivals hall. It is sad I know.

Im in a similar situation, and Ive been thinking about the same issue. The landside Subway is open the latest. Since they only do takeaway, I cant help but think how homeless pax (me included) will feel, strolling around the terminal, with the only goal being killing time.

Airside - If were lucky, the vending machines will work.

Thanks both. Guess Ill step foot into Santa land for a bit before the minuscule AY food portions and always delayed flights.

It was so bad once for me in this pandemic with a long wait and everything closed, I started considering trying to have a conversation with the vending machine when my phone died and I realized that I accidentally packed my charger in my checked bag.

It’s ok to talk to the vending machine. The time to worry is when it starts talking back.

When they start talking back, you most likely have hopped on flight to Japan.

Considering the creativity of AY forum members, I wonder that no one has not suggested HEL airport DO at 9PM to agree the exact date or dates.

I don’t know if it’s open, but can you got to to the Hilton for a quick dinner and drinks?

In Finland, only gas stations can provide a covid safe environment for eating and drinking after 6 pm.

The only place which at the airport is allowed to serve food in the evening is the ST1 gas station. But it is naturally closed on Sundays and closes by 18:00 all other days.

nah uh. For real? Thats incredibly surprising for a European country at this stage of the pandemic. But oh well, in even stranger news, there are places still chasing 0 covid case rates.

Blame the "we-must.be-seen-as-doing-something" combined with "I haven't noticed it's not April 2020 anymore" mindset of the PM and Health Minister.

(more discussion on the subject in hp-hp thread)

St1, Air BP, Neste and some private stations share the same property (real estate identification 92-407-5-115) as restaurants and lounges at the airport. Does it count as "polttonesteiden jakeluaseman yhteydess" as the Communicable Diseases Act 58 a states?
