The flights seemed poorly timed for connections in HEL. For example HEL-FCO doesn't run on Tuesdays and the Monday HEL-FCO departure is only a few minutes after the arrival of LAX-HEL. So leaving on Sunday wouldn't get me there until Wednesday..

I think it has been generally established that AY has not much concern for US feeder traffic but is only focusing on serving the Asian destinations so not really surprises there. The geographical position of HEL is neither that well positioned for US feeder traffic for the rest of Europe.

[Edit] never mind, I was looking at 2018 flights, not 2019... Original post below.
Sorry to rain on the parade, but it looks like this is not a non-stop flight - It has a stop in SFO, so really this is just HEL-SFO-LAX.
See https://www.finnair.com/fi/gb/destin...ca/los-angeles
...I wonder if you can book just SFO-LAX or LAX-SFO...

I know the question is redundant now, but it's an interesting one nevertheless, and the answer is 'no'. The US does not allow foreign airlines to transport pax on domestic US itineraries. There is a handful of such flights, QF LAX-JFK is probably the best known. They may transport stopover pax, so if you buy SYD-LAX-JFK with a stopover at LAX, then you could continue to JFK on QF. Otherwise, it's not possible.
There are some intra-NA flights that cross borders and those have fifth freedom rights, so it is possible to fly CX YVR-JFK, for instance.
AY used to have domestic flights in Switzerland in the 1990s. GVA-ZRH with local traffic rights...

Will be nice for Plats as they will get access to the Qantas First lounge. I've heard good things about their dining.
Also, LAX is good for connecting traffic.

This is great news. By the way, there are plenty of oneworld award seats right now (~3 on all the flights) and upgrade space (9+) on these new flights, including the inaugural on 3/31. I will however be flying on 4/4.

On the few I've been on, there have been something special. When NKG opened, everyone in J got wireless head-set to bring home.
As LAX has been on the route network before, I wouldn't count too much on a big celebration, but your guess is as good as mine.
