I've written many times about the targeted United 55k+ offer- it was even a part of my last round of applications. However, it is targeted and the link to that Flyertalk is useless for someone who isn't targeted for the offer. The Chase branch tip (which clearly isn't my referral link) was just a tip for people who were not targeted for the 55k, but still wanted it since anyone can go into a Chase branch and get that offer. |

I don't approve comments- they post instantly, so if you never saw it post, it's likely it got flagged as SPAM. Posting it again would likely have the same effect.

Tee hee, I just edited the wiki in a manner that perhaps can serve as a compromise between the warring factions in the great 76 character war!
Let's see who can figure out what I did first! :D |
Looks like another version of hide the pickle. Suggest just making it really small.

Let me tell you all a secret: You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to United AND Hyatt, wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never knew a thing about BA Avios until I got the 100,000 point credit card bonus. I never knew a thing about Southwest. Thanks to TPG and MMS, the repetition came on a day that I needed to learn about those programs. @:-) And FYI TBB, I never paid attention to Chase UR until I got those Chase credit cards. The repetition is annoying, but it certainly is helpful for a newbie to a program. :o Speaking of repetition, your loyal readers are anxiously waiting for cc links to appear on your blog. :p |

Funny you should mention this. While the repetition does get annoying, it can be incredibly useful if all of a sudden, one day you need the information. I know about UA and Starwood. I've learned about Hilton and ICH over the years.

So had the coverage not gone up about the program I wouldn't have written the post today (you can see at the bottom of my siggy and I think is quite good IMHO) which might be useful to lots of people. But I'm sure there are a lot of people who are just turned off by the credit card posts because I'm surprised from the number of comments who kept on thinking that domestic awards were only for Germany and Austria. ;) |

Does it count as censoring if the blog changes one's comment w/o notice?
Gary changed a word I used that was very mildly disparaging of a third person. I called the fellow a "goof" and it was changed to "guy." EDIT: Gary and I have had a cordial exchange via PM wherein he says he did not edit my post. I am equally confident that I remember the exact word I purposely used, and it's different now. I suggested that perhaps Boarding Area changed it and he does not think that is possible. So there you have it. |

Who among us is going to read everything from day one when we chance upon a blog or a thread.? So a repritions is OK, besides it does take repetition for a human to remember ! Reading the quoted post, can any & ALL of us hereby commit that we will NEVER profit from posting any links ?;) |
Censors - wild about travel
I saw this post for 300k points.
http://boardingarea.com/wildabouttra...r-70/#comments I linked it to the RTw beer tasting thread on FT http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...pers-like.html Comments were deleted |
Thanks to this thread, I have stopped moderating comments on my Fishing4Deals blog. When I set up Fishing4Deals, I was holding comments for moderation, but now that the blog has picked up steam, I can see how that can discourage commenters. People want to see their comments posted right away so they can get immediate feedback from other readers. The WordPress spam filter is excellent and has always been right! The only discouraging thing is that I have ten times more spam than real comments.

I have not run into that with Askimet. No problems whatsoever.

Problem for me is akismet is a bit wonky as it will filter out any comments that have links in them, even though they are legit. Quite annoying actually.
There is a WordPress setting under Setting / Discussion which says 'Hold a Comment for moderation if it contains more than [x] links'. By default it is set to 2, but you can change this. Perhaps this is the issue? |

The latest addition to BoardingArea, "Michael W Travels" should just change his name to "Michael W Censors". How dare anyone beg to differ with Randy Petersen's claim that BoardingArea is "a great family of bloggers who respect their readers and the information and advice they publish."

First of all, I do not censor but I will if it is a personal attack, rude or vulgar comment. When you start a blog, you can make whatever rules you feel are appropriate. Have a great weekend! Michael W. |
What part of my comment was rude, vulgar or a personal attack? I basically said BoardingArea had become a massive affiliate billboard for FlexOffers (aka BentOffers) but that new bloggers could make it more respectable.

Thanks for clarifying. Could be something related to the moderation queue. Normally when comments are held for approval they still show up to the person that posted, but my comment went away, so I assumed it had been censored.

I just don't get why people are so quick to attack and for nothing to be honest. |
I learned this the hard way when Delta Points accused me of censoring when his comment went into spam by itself:D
Michael: Check Pending and Spam. Now with BA you should get the spam under control. It took me a while but now it is fine. At first, I was drowning in spam!! Man, you are so jumpy...get it? |
We should be able to share our thoughts and from time to time, our concerns and comments. Rule #1 of rhetoric is never to attack the author but the subject. Lately it seems that personal attacks are common and hurtful
However, a few bloggers get offended when one provides either a different point of view or questions the offers they post as best value out there. I have learned to skip them altogether. |

Blogging every day is a ton of work and I do not see why there is an issue with bloggers getting paid with CC links. When the content is only geared to the CCs, that's when the problems arise. My opinion and others are free to disagree. |
Michael:
You need the plugin Akismet. Raffles suggested it to me and SAVED me from the spam! It has been a lifesaver! Be careful in Albania & Kosovo, it can be quite a rough crowd over there! I can't believe I am giving blogging advice, lol at myself:D |

It's definitely a fun (not really) process learning Word Press. Blogger was just so simple to use. There is quite a bit of spam getting through so I have to skim each one. If the message is debatable then I wait and still most likely send to spam. There has got to be some better filters for this!
Guilty I am- of being jumpy! It's rubbing off on my 19 month old now. Lots of fun! I totally agree with you however I don't really see a need or place for personal attacks. I've personally never had an issue with what a particular blogger posts or tries to sell. I can choose however if I'd like to continue reading the blogs Ive stopped reading a bunch of blogs where the content completely changed course. Blogging every day is a ton of work and I do not see why there is an issue with bloggers getting paid with CC links. When the content is only geared to the CCs, that's when the problems arise. My opinion and others are free to disagree. One should strive for civility and point issues, more like: " by the way, [blogger xxxx], there is a much more rewarding offer on XX. Can you check it out and see if your affiliate source can provide you with an updated link?" I look forward to reading you. |

When I had my interview with MMS about my blog, Rom from "Romsdeals" commented, that it's a tough crowd out there. Boy, was he right! Michael W, I agree on Wordpress. I thought maybe it was just me, but I am having a hard time figuring it out. Still don't know how to add Twitter button, my husband is in IT and can't get it to work!!! Oh, and I do sensor comments, if there is profanity or offensive stuff. Though I did let a funny comment about Mennonite miler through, because Amish most likely don't read my blog.
Keep on jumping, that's your niche, man! |
Also, crazy question. How do I add my blog to the fine collection of sensor blogs? I can't figure it out, sorry.
