An EVA Air Assistant Purser(who also won the highest internal award for employees from the company in '15) has been suspended with no pay from her duties for 11 months, after she was caught by Japanese Customs bringing in more gold than she was allowed to carry without a customs declaration and paid duty. Mgmt. also wrote a very nasty memo to crew, telling them that anyone caught doing this will face the same punishments, the company may pursue financial damages based on you destroying their reputation, and also face forfeiture of their annual bonuses(can be 1-8 months of pay!). Union has no comment, other than to "remind their members that local law must be followed at all times". Totally disgusting behavior on her part. Apparently, many FAs do this because it is good money and people need their gold brought to Japan(strict duty-exempt rules for gold).
