Train pass question........
Ok, heres the deal........
I will be in Switzerland and Germany this October, and I plan on traveling via train using a Germany-Swiss Rail Pass.
One part of my trip will take me from Lauterbrunnen to Locarno. Simple enough...........but the part that has me a bit confused is this train ride will take me through a bit of Italy. (Brig to Locarno via Domodossola, Italy) The train will be in Italy for 30-ish KM before going back into Switzerland.
Now, I've read some things about the pass that states cities near the border of the country your pass is valid in are covered..........ie Salzburg is covered under the German pass.
But is there some place I can find specifics of this rule? Last thing I want is to face some hefty fine from a pissed off Italian conductor.

and you're sure you knew that before - that the train goes thru italian territory before you boarded?
I'd just play the innocent - and if get caught (not very likely to happen) apologize and ask to pay for that italy part.

Lauterbrunnen? Abso-friggin'-lutely gorgeous!!! Enjoy! ^ (OT, I know, but I just wanted to stop in and say so.
)
And, I agree with chrissxb. Even if someone takes notice of it, I'm sure you'll be OK. You're not going to be the first person to have done this.

The Rail Europe multi-country pass benefit summary for passes including Switzerland shows that as of 2004 your train, the "Centovalli Express" is covered:
http://www.railtickets.com.au/downlo...enicTrains.pdf
If that doesn't convince the conductor, show him SBB's map of trains covered by the Swiss Pass (even though multi-country passes aren't discussed):

Have a great trip!

So I've heard. I actually rearranged our trip to give us more time in Lauterbrunnen after seeing pics of the place.
It doesn't look real. It looks like some Swiss fantasy painting.
