Basque Border Crossings
Will be spending a few days in San Sebastian in late August. Have hired a car for other purposes and am considering a day trip, possibly overnight, to see Biarritz and some of the French Basque countryside.
What border cross difficulties should someone traveling on an American passport expect? I presume I'll need to coordinate with rental car agency to obtain whatever tax stickers might be required. Considering the time of year and recent reports of unrest should I be expecting absurd queues?

I did this crossing last May and it was like going from Pennsylvania to Ohio... no great barriers. You may want to stop at Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a great French Basque coastal town right after you cross the border into France and before you begin the ascent on A63 (the French side of the Spanish A8)

Both France and Spain belong to the Schengen area so there are no border controls between the two countries.
