Rome
Will be part of group of around 30 going in May and will be expected to host a couple of dinners. Any and all help would be appreciated.
Staying near Via Veneto. Quality and authenticity will be valued over atmosphere and wine list by this particular group.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I agree... It depends on what you are looking for. There's a Hard Rock Cafe across from the American Embassy in which I've seen some big groups inside. There are a number of trattorias throughout the area that have downstairs dining rooms that host larger groups.

I will post info here as I discover it. I am checking out 3 I have gotten from other sources. I will also follow advice to contact Concierge and post those suggestions.

Try the egullet region section for some rome suggestions:

I would say stay away from the Hard Rock and maybe see if you can get something in Trastevere, Testaccio or the Centro Storico that can hold a private function.
I don't think I've really ever had a bad meal in Rome. I wish I could say the same for Venice.

[QUOTE=cblaisd]Since destination-specific, rather than cross-destination dining discussion, etc., moving to Destinations/Europe forum

Obviously you are the moderator and can do whatever you think is in the best interest of the forum and I will accept it, BUT... I would never, ever think of looking in Destination Europe for dining info. Destination Europe is so much broader that specific topics like this will get buried, as evidenced by the zero responses received since the move of the post. This seems similar to moving a post specifically about UA to "Travel" as it technically belongs to the bigger category of Travel.

I like the call the conceirge idea. call the conceirge at the excelsior, the majestic, the ambascaitori(was not a lux when I stayed there), the baglioni, the bernni bristol & ask them.
they do not have a guest schedule in front of them.

La Matricianella, Via del Leone 4, phone 06.6832100, would be my choice. It's one of the most authentic, old-fashioned trattorias in Rome, with consistently excellent food and a very fairly-priced wine list. It's located about a 5-minute walk west from the Spanish Steps, I would guess.

Was there last April. Simply fabulous food and atmosphere.
