La Matricianella, Via del Leone 4, phone 06.6832100, would be my choice. It's one of the most authentic, old-fashioned trattorias in Rome, with consistently excellent food and a very fairly-priced wine list. It's located about a 5-minute walk west from the Spanish Steps, I would guess.
