I would recommend meals at Choux (modern European with a spacious ambiance behind Centraal station) and John Dory (a cozy little seafood restaurant that does a delicious and affordable tasting menu) in the heart of central Amsterdam.

Just there last week --
You may not want pizza if you are only there for a few days, but this is a neighborhood place, very friendly and very good Restaurant Faam. https://www.restaurantfaam.nl
And an interesting place that uses surplus food from grocers, misshapen vegetables... Instock. https://www.instock.nl/en/menu/ I was there for breakfast and the croque monsieur was delicious.
Nearby the Tropen Museum that has a fascinating Japanese culture exhibit on now.
And if you want to have a Dutch meal with the Dutch -- check out Martine's table -- www.martines-table.com. I joined 5 other travelers for a delicious Dutch meal with Martine and Olav at their home about a 7 minute walk from Centraal Station. Dinner and conversation went on for hours.

We had fantastic seafood at Lucius Visrestaurant and really enjoyed our meal and the excellent service at Van Speyk. We were in Amsterdam in October and headed back in July. Enjoy your trip!

Blue Amsterdam. Food and drinks with a panoramic view of the city.
If you like your food with a view that won't blow the budget. More of a cafe, you enter taking the elevator in the shopping center just off Kalverstraat, just down from one end of the Flower Market. A very buzzy atmosphere.
Go for the Dutch Meat Croquettes with hot mustard dipping sauce. Add some fries with Mayo. Grab a coffee and cake afterwards.
If it's sunny, bring your shades. Definitely bring your camera for 360 degree views of the city.
