Time for security through ZRH
Hi,
We are travelling to ZRH in spring. Our return flight is at 7am in the morning. How much earlier should we be at the ariport to comfortably go through check-in and security at ZRH? We will be travelling with an infant.
Also, where do you recommend staying the prior night in Zurich? At an hotel in the airport or near it? Or staying at the city center and taking a train early morning?

We stayed at the Radisson Blu right inside the terminal building a few weeks ago - got a pretty good deal on Expedia. This was at a week-end, though, when hotel prices may well be lower.
My recent experience of security at ZRH is limited to that one recent Saturday morning (when it was quite fast and painless) but if you're travelling on a weekday then 7 am could be quite busy. If you tell us what day of the week you're travelling, and where to, and whether or not you are checking baggage, then someone will hopefully be able to give you some advice.

Some airlines allow you to check in your bag the night before at ZRH. Here is some further information - in German, unfortunately (that's just where I ended up!). The "ja" and "nein" refer to online check-in, the instructions on the site say that you should click on the name of the airline to find out more.

If you airline allows you to drop off your bag the night before then life is going to be a whole lot easier for you... just drop off everything the evening before except for an overnight bag.
And for a 7 am departure I would definitely recommend the Radisson Blu in the terminal building, if you can get an affordable price.

I did not know about the evening checkin. Thanks for pointing that out but it seems like our airline does not provide that option.
We are staying in ZRH for a couple of nights. Would you recommend staying in central Zurich the first night and moving to Radisson Blu for the night prior to flying out? Is there a great advantage?
Our concern with staying in central Zurich is that trains dont seem to start until 5am, which in turn means we wont get to the airport until about 5:30. Is that sufficient time (1.5hrs) to check-in, go through security and get to our gate with an infant in hand?

Do you still need an answer for that? In my opinion and as a Swiss, I'd say that it doesn't matter whether you stay in the city or near the airport. It takes only about ten minutes from the airport to the middle of the city by train and trains run frequently, I'd say about every 10 minutes. One "specialty" of Switzerland is that with your ticket, you can take every train, which means you can take the S-trains or the IC/IR/EC-trains and you don't have to pay extra or make a reservation for them.
On a saturday morning, you can take the S-train which leaves Zurich main station at 5.02 and arrives at the airport 5.14. That should leave sufficient time.
