Gold status and requlification...

I was matched to Gold with an expiry date on my card showing 4/15.
I didn't get to fly EY in last 2 years since Gold (0 tier points)

This year I will have 50K+ tier points - the flight that will take me over 50K is on May 4 (after my status expires)

Do I need 40K or 50K to attain Gold? How long will status be valid? Can I pick up the new card in May in AUH ?

thanks

Acid I am in a very similar situation to yourself, and it is certainly not clear what will happen. Retaining and attaining a tier level appearing to have different time periods.

As I understand it to retain Gold you would have had to have accumulated 40K+ tier miles between 1st Jan 2014 and 31st Dec 2014. Attaining less than this but more than 25K means you would drop to Silver and below 25K just Guest tier. However you still retain your existing status till 31st March 2015 before dropping back.

However as I understanding it attaining a tier is is the number of Tier Miles in the preceding 12 month rolling period NOT calendar month. Therefore in your case Acid you may have little status when you fly in early May. However then you will attain Gold again which will be valid till the end of the calendar year, then two years plus the bonus three months - so valid till 31st Match 2018!!!

Can this all be correct? Certainly it is my interpretation as found here at the bottom http://www.etihadguest.com/en/programme/benefits/gold/. Appears far better than just retaining a level.

I will be in a similar situation with Silver.

I spoke to 2 agents and they gave me different answers. First agent seemed more informed -

The card dispatched date is your anniv date -mine was Aug 2013

Aug2013-Aug 2014 is my free year
Aug2015-Aug 2015 is my qualification year and I need 40K to re-qualify

Once achieved, the status remains for another year.

Second agent was of the opinion that Aug 2013-Aug 2014 was my qualification year. He also used the card dispatched date as a guideline but said sometimes card is not dispatched for months so it may be inaccurate.

Bottomline - no one knows - and their systems don't tell them expiry dates.

That is how I read it too. I am in a very similar position, but at a silver level. Due to fares been half the price with EK (for my fixed dates) in the early part of last year, I only made 15K tier miles. So I am expecting to drop to guest on 1st April.

One thing which confuses me is that on the website my status reads:

You have:
14987 Guest Tier Miles
To attain Etihad Guest tier you need:
35013 Guest Tier Miles

How I read this is that I need 35K to get to gold. But this does not make sense, as I have not flown yet this year.

I will be sad to see my silver disappear. I have been silver/gold since 2007. And I have 6 flights coming up in the next 8 weeks which would net me 24K tier miles. Hopefully I can schedule something later in the year to bump me back up.

But have you flown the 14,987 Guest Tier Miles in the last twelve months not just this calendar year?

Jon - you were absolutely right here. Etihad confirmed to me via email exactly what you said. I think the point I was missing was that status matched Gold status just get that year and 1 year rather than 2 additional years.

Also - per their email it seems they have a soft landing. I will drop to Silver on April 1 and will be back to Gold once I complete my 50K tier miles in May. That will be an earned Gold and will last until March 31, 2018!
I'm actually happy with this as retaining a tier is only for 1 year while earning it again gives me 2+ years.

Thanks for that Acid, I was not aware of the soft landing. Careful reading of the website makes no mention of this.
