Upgrading to business

I am fairly new to this and recently booked economy flights LHR-DXB (26th Oct to 1st Nov). I found that my wife and I both already have 15500 skymiles each and upgrades cost 25000. Did I read somewhere that if one person upgrades then the whole party gets upgraded too? Probably too good to be true! Anyway there has been no availability every day since we booked last week, it just keeps saying try again at a later date. I know that I will have to purchase more miles (probably for both my wife and I) but don't want to in case we can't upgrade, its definitely cheaper than paying outright for J class. I just wanted to know my chance of the upgrades becoming available. We are on EK001 (A380) on the way out and EK005 (777-300) on the way back if this helps. We have a baby travelling on our lap too, will she require any miles to get upgraded?

for infant bookings there is a 10% mile charged... to upgrade an infant on the lap it will cost 2500 miles... if only this was the case for adults lolllll

the EK5 is indeed the old 777... if you are looking for the full emirates premium experience this flight may not be worth the upgrade.

My recent experience was that it is worth trying again later. I upgraded a recent flight Manchester to Dubai on a 777-300ER after several weeks of it showing no availability. Once it showed availability I logged in and purchased the extra miles, which were credited to my account literally within seconds, so I was able to lose no time in getting my upgrade confirmed.

On a 777-300 the business class seats are not lie flat but I found it infinitely preferable to the remainder of my flight (Dubai to Melbourne) which I had to do in economy.
