Question STPC Question

Recently, I had a J class ticket but couldn't confirm the J seat on one sector (depart @ 0055hr) because the flight was booked solid. Because I have gold status, EK secured me a Y seat on that flight.

Then, I found out EK had an extra flight with available J seats that leaves a couple hours earlier at around 1500hr and arrives DXB at 2000hr. My connecting flight out of DXB was around 1400hr the next day. When I asked if I could get on the earlier flight EK told me "yes" but I'd lose my STPC (hotel + misc)

If I were to get on the earlier extra flight, technically my stopover would only be about 18hrs, still under 24hrs as stipulated in EK's website. Would I lose my STPC because I had that Y seat secured? Does "earliest available flight" ignore the class you're booked in? Am I missing something some info?

So you're saying that with the new flight arriving DXB at 2000 (8pm), the earliest flight from DXB to your destination is not until 1400 (2pm) the following day. If that's the case, and both flights are on EK, there's no question you qualify for STPC. Where is your EK flight from DXB flying to?

My understanding (from posts on FT) is the STPC is based on the airline schedules, ignoring availability. If it is theoretically possible to have shorter transit of less than the requirement for STPC then STPC does not apply. That is an EK policy as I understand it.

That's correct. The OP will only qualify for STPC if EK's schedule doesn't allow a connection within 8 hours for economy and 6 hours for business or first.

I've PM'ed my flight details.

I'm confused though, my friend redeemed from EK a ticket between KUL to MUC in Dec07. KUL-DXB flight arrived at 0350hr. There are 2 flights to MUC, one at 0835hr and the other at 1630hr. Since the earlier flight was fully booked, she went on the later flight AND she also got STPC. What gives?

If based on the airline schedules, ignoring availability, this wouldn't be the case
