A340-500s aren't going to be used on ultra long hauls any more although they've been rumoured for GIG/EZE. I think EK have the optimal flight times covered & now just need bigger aircraft (hence A380). Perhaps something better akin for O&D pax. eg. Dep DXB 12 noon arrive JFK 18:15. return 20:15 arrive late afternoonish... hits the peak time in JFK but hey.

Thanks 777! ^
So I guess there is no provision with JFK slots that if you own them, you must use them. I guess with the FAA's efforst lately to reduce delays at JFK, they would probably encourage airlines not to fully utilise their slots.

3rd JFK flight announced in IAH-DXB announcement
On the Skywards news article, it indicated the third JFK daily flight with no details:
http://www.skywards.com/News_Detail....tcm:136-281389
"Houston is Emirate's second U.S. gateway, offering business and leisure travellers the fastest link between the UAE and Texas with a 17 hour flight from Dubai to Houston and a return of approximately 15 hours. The route follows on the success of Emirates' first destination in the United States, New York, which has been operating since 2004 and has since grown to become a three-flights-a-day service. "
Article also notes how big the cargo business is and mentions the USB port options on flight.

Emirates is definitely considering adding a 3rd non-stop JFK flight, however plans have not been finalised as to whether it will be in 2008. Based on the current A340-500 operating plan, there is certainly room in early 2009 to add a daily 3rd JFK with departures ex-DXB at 2/3pm and a return the following day in the midnight bank. The 3x EK85/86 ZRH frequencies would need to be axed and switched to another aircraft to make the schedule work, but i don't think that would be a problem. Ideally Emirates would prefer operating JFK with the B777-300ER given the better economics and so they may just end up waiting for more 77Ws and commence this sector in 2Q09. With the likely addition of more Sub-continent, Asia and Africa frequencies in 2009 the feeders to the JFK flight will increase materially.

Sure, few congestion problems on the first return, but it'll bound to be caught up more than a few times. But perhaps from EKs point of view that is good. The later the departure, the better timed it is to connect to the midnight bank.

Am I right in suggesting that the current 11pm return from JFK will become the return flight "hitting the midnight bank" from the new flight which will depart DXB at 2/3pm? IN that case, the current 8:45(?)am departure ex-DXB which is first to get the A380 will hav it's return rescheduled to an earlier time, before 6pm to miss the worse of the traffic? It would get in around noon/early afternoon which sort of makes sense for regional connections in Dubai. I would think the 3rd daily would be a B77W. There arriving from the factory & being displaced by A380s (slowly) so there will surely be some availabilty.
The new 3rd daily will likely leave slightly later than EK202 to arrive into the midnight bank at DXB.
All 77Ws have been allocated for operating plan 2008/9. Of course there are 2 aircraft not allocated but they are slated for a yet un-named destination. Of course this can change if they decide not to launch that destination.

No, i believe EK201/202 will remain as is. In order to provide even some reasonable connectivity eastbound the flight would need to arrvie into DXB by 11.30am -- this will be difficult given that the earliest the flight could depart JFK would be 4pm which would mean a 1.30pm arrival. You would miss key departures to BLR, DAC and BOM. If Emirates gets additional India access at the next bilateral discussions and begins to add more flights with later afternoon departures ex-DXB then i'm sure such a flight would be considered.

I'm guessing the 2 unallocated B77Ws are for ORD?
