Connection from DL to EK

Hi, I am flying from ATL to JFK on Delta .. getting in at 8:20pm and then on the 11pm to DXB. I was wondering if 1) anyone had any experience checking in their bags all the way to DXB inspite of the fact that they are two separate reservations. 2) anyone knew the distance between the delta arrival and EK departure.. (I'm trying to determine how long it could take to get there and how I will carry my 2 big bags).

Any help will be appreciated.

It should be no problem to check the bags through from ATL to DXB, inspite of the fact that they are two separate reservations.
I have done this several times (not this DL/EK connection) before.

Thanks dusordua.
Do you think it'll be a problem that I'm going from RSW-ATL-JFK (sorry for not mentioning that earlier)... you still think that'll be ok?

I think that is o.k. (if your luggage will make it to JFK )

My flight gets in at 8:20 p and doesn't leave until 11:20pm so I think I'll be fine. Thanks for all the help folks.
