Forthcoming flight on Sri Lankan!
I am booked on Sri Lankan this weekend. Never flown on either Emirates or Sri Lankan before. Am a *G but have heard great things about the Skywards program.
Is it better to join the Sri Lankan program or Emirates? I will probably fly Emirates more then I will on Lankan. Is there any joining offers on right now?

Sri Lankan and Emirates share http://www.skywards.com
If you sign up now, you might get a first flight bonus. Can't remember whether it is for first flight booked after signup, or just flown after signup, but definitely take care of it before the weekend. I think it's something like 3,500 miles for J travel (though you didn't mention class of service). Also, 30% bonus miles on Emirates for booking online, so there are some very good bonuses. Skywards is almost as generous as United in mileage earning, though the miles expire and the redemptions are much higher in many cases.

Interested to hear your opinion after travel. My friends who travelled on 1 Nov from FRA to CMB on UL flight complained a lot about their service. Ground service was fine, though it took them 1 hour in queue to checkin. (They went 3 hours a head to the airport). But the service was fine and boarding was fine too. But the inflight service seemed to be drastically down. Their main complaints were about irritated hostesses, who were not showing up except for lunch and dinner and any requests meanwhile were ignored. It seems some passengers shouted that they asked for water/drink at dinner and that was not served even after a hour after dinner. And at the end, only the passengers who shouted got drinks later and others were not served at all...
Doesnt seem to be a big fall in their service in a short span????
