a340-500
Hi Everyone:
I recently flew the JFK-DXB-JFK flight using the 1/2 miles promotion (so I am not really complaining here) but has EK done something to the a340-500s? I mean last time I flew them the JFK flights were new and I remember far more space in the Y cabin. According to SeatGuru and Emirates Web site there are far fewer rows in the diagram than were on the plane. It seemed like they added some rows. Anyone have any information?
So, it was a bit uncomfortable at times but hey, it was 2 free tickets for 70,000 miles. Too bad I was just shy of the J reward.
Thanks.

That's a really interesting observation. I just checked seatguru and economy is from rows 15-37. I just pulled out the current emirates timetable which shows plane configurations and it's showing economy from 15-41. No rows have beens skipped in either case. This does seem to suggest that 4 rows have been indeed added...very interesting and disappointing. This of course is just pure speculation.

When the A340-500 was delivered - brand new, the seat pitch in Y class was 31"
I don't think they would add seats after, because then the seat pitch would be even less
Come to think of it - EK is pretty good at stuffing seats into planes.
Cheers
Nota Bene
www.seatguru.com is very inaccurate with regards to Emirates. Of the few planes I have checked in detail (773 / 772 mainly) the F/J cabins have too many rows of seats, the seat pitch is wrong, and there are lots of other problems. I wouldn't be surprised if the A340-500 seatmap also has some errors in it. I have emailed seat guru with corrections.

Flying last week on my return I was in row 21 which according to the maps would be one row from the back of the first Y cabin. There was at least 3 rows, probably more behind me though.
My first flights on the 345 were very comfortable and this time not so much. This time one could not really use the tray table unless the persno in fron was not reclined. Something must have changed. Also, I remember the seats having an additional lumbar button in Y and this time there wasn't one. The EK website for Y shows the additional button in a photo as well...very strange.
There were definately more rows in the forward Y cabin this time -- way more than the seven they note on their Web site.
