Dubai to Abu Dhabi

Hi
A couple of questions that I hope you can help me with.

I will be flying to MAN-DXB and need to go on to Abu Dhabi, what is the best way to do this.I will be in Y not sure which flight yet.

Also I need to go to Qatar for a week, does anyone have experience of using Arabian Airpass coupons DXB-DOH with EK?

Thanks

If you can hire a car, that would be your best bet. It's about 60-90 minutes away depending on traffic/how fast you drive.

I reckon you'd be able to agree 50 with a taxi driver.

If you know when you need to go to DOH, just book MAN-DXB-DOH-DXB-MAN with a stopover in DXB. This will generally be the same price, plus maybe a bit more for taxes.

Cheers,
Rick

Agreed. Dubai / Abu Dhabi - Doha tickets are ridiculously expensive ($450USD+). if you dont mind flying from Sharjah, try Air Arabia. www.airarabia.com

Does that small commuter plane still run between Dubai and Abu Dhabi several times a day?

I have never been on it, but read that it flew to somewhere near, or perhaps on, Dubai Creek.

Agree. Book the DXB-DOH-DXB as part of your long haul trip. It will probably cost about the same as just going to DXB and the EK fares allow free stopover in DXB, so you are set. From some destinations, it is cheaper to fly to DOH than DXB.

I would think a taxi from DXB to Abu Dhabi would cost no more than US$100. I believe you should agree on the fare in advance and verify that the driver will take you. They can't pick up there, so they have to drive back empty.

A private driver and car roundtrip to Abu Dhabi costs US$150 for up to 5 hours use, booked in advance, from most of the limousine companies. So I would think a one-way drop off would cost less and taxis are cheaper than private cars.

The cheapest MAN - DXB Emirates fare is 478.00GBP + tax in K class

In contrast, the MAN-DXB Emirates K class fare is 538.00GBP+ tax.

This fare allows stopovers, so the 50.00GBP extra is much less than a flight would cost.

It might even be better to fly Qatar Airways and stopover in Doha

MAN-DOH return is 351.00GBP + tax

MAN-DOH-DXB return is 294.00GBP + tax (V class)

Cheers

There was a time when EK's 0130 DXB-LGW flight used to stop at AUH to pick up passengers on the way to LGW - it was a real hassle. I'm glad they put a stop to that!

Just wondering, with AUH and DXB pretty close to each other, and with Dubai being the choice of most tourists (or so it seems from what I've read in most FT forums), does AUH get that much traffic? With DXB being the major airport in the UAE, and with all those jets Emirates has on order, will AUH still be a player in the near future? I'm wondering why 2 airports so close to each other are needed.

They are close enough that if you want to fly to DXB, you can fly to AUH or vv. Kinda like LHR and LGW or EWR and JFK

They're building another airport at Jebel Ali, which is roughly half way between DXB and AUH. This is going to be the worlds biggest airport. I *think* I heard that it's area is about 55 square kilometers.

Rick

Taxi Fare is normally 280 Dhs (300 inc. tip) Approx GBP 50.
I normally just book mine with the hotel and they just add it on to your room bill otherwise arrange it with the official taxi's in the arrival area.

Hiring a car is an option but after a 7 hrs flight can be a pain to have to drive and find your way etc. Especially if like me you like a bevvy in the air

I did once take a flight with Gulf Air DXB-AUH Flight GF603 IIRC. The hassle of going through the airport prior to departure / arrival and then having to still take a 20-30 min taxi ride to the city from AUH meant it was pointless. The flight was about 15 min alone, don't think the wheels went up.

Reminds me of DOH - BAH (QR). I couldn't believe it that they not only had time to dish out food (full loads) but the captain still came on to say we'd reached cruising height...less than 2 minutes later he came back over the speakers to announce our descent!
Of course you also risk delays if flying verse taxi'ing as at least taxis have some flexibility over their routing. (My DOH - BAH took about 2 hrs due to congestion).
