Upgrade priority order

Upgrade priority order

Hi all,

I was recently flying with on a business special ticket as a platinum member with my partner who is a gold member (business saver ticket).

The flight was overbooked and so she and a bunch of other people got upgraded to first. Somehow, I wasn’t, despite my platinum status - I recall plat status gets priority over non-plats regardless of fare types.

Has there recently been a change in the upgrade policy?

The computer will show a list of who "should" get upgrades (and perhaps Special is now off that list).

But in the end, the controller will do it, and they are usually contractors, and sometimes they are rushed and go from who they have in front of them.

Also, did you order a SPML? Sometimes they will avoid upgrading those pax.

That also explains why (quite a few years ago), Mrs t and myself got upgraded holding business saver tickets as silver members. Guess they needed two seats in J and the easiest was to upgrade two people travelling on one PNR. Mrs t, used to be known as the 'queen of upgrades' amongst some of our EK friends but it has not happened since Covid.
