Auto-upgrade - do points need points need to be in account?

Auto-upgrade - do points need points need to be in account?
I'm looking to upgrade my award booking from J to F using Skywards points... do I need to have the points available in my account or can I transfer them in when the upgrade become available? I'd rather not pre-emptively transfer the points in case the upgrade doesn't clear.

You'll need to have the points in your account. You can keep checking manually, and transfer if/when the availability opens up.

Checking online yourself or calling EK now and again to see if a seat has opened up is a lot more useful than relying on the auto upgrade option.
