I recieved an upgrade offer to business class of 14,305 thai batt for my flight from Bangkok - Dubai. Is the upgrade a good price? I feel it's expensive but wanted to get the opinion of the experts here.

Its a longer flight BKK-DXB than the other way around. It will be much quicker getting through customs, the lounge is all right. For me, it would depend on how much I had already spent on the economy ticket, if I was on a saver then it would be a no brainer whereas on a flex plus I wouldn't be so sure. Is it a 777 or a380..?

It was a flex ticket. Paid 10,900 batt or something for the ticket. DXB - KWI flight is in business (using miles.)

That price makes it a no brainer for me if you are wanting to sleep. Having said that, after too many missed connections for either myself or my luggage I am off to BKK later giving BR ago.

I am not sure on flight loads lately, so the other thing I would consider is how much space you may have in economy if the loads are light.

If you have regularly flown A380 I personally would not but if you haven't on the 380 I think it's worth it.

I was looking at the seat map (via Expertflyer) and was unable to find a window seat in business. Furthermore, my hotel is providing me with a complimentary fast-track access in Bangkok, and with my credit card I already have access to a variety of lounges.

Yes! I have been on the A380 J class before and this is a morning flight, thus sleep is not an issue for me. The load is almost full in Y and J. As there is no window seat available I'm not tempted to take the offer yet. May I know why most of you think it's a no brainer? 9,000 is a no brainer but I think 14,305 is a bit too much!

Based on the numbers you have given, you would fly J for a factor of 2.3 of Y. Now of course there are many permutations (Flex vs Saver etc etc), but in general I think that 2.3 is pretty good value. I think 4 or more is closer to the �norm� (if there is such a thing). But in the end, it�s worth what it�s worth TO YOU, not to any of use who may have different standards and requirements.
Bear in mind that the offer won�t last forever. It comes out of P bucket (which is no longer shown in EF). It can well sell out.

I don't think EKs email upgrade offers give much, if any, value at all.

I fly from Asia to the UK via DXB and an economy return is usually ~�600 whereas a business return is ~�2100. I usually get emailed upgrade offers to J for �3-400 per leg (remember, there are 4 legs in that journey) so it essentially works out at the same price. So if I'm flying EK, I either book business to begin with or book economy and don't upgrade. On my last flight I actually did upgrade from Y to J on one leg and there were approx. 10 people in the J cabin whereas Y was full. It did make me wonder why they don't offer the upgrade at a lower price presuming many more people would take it.

Contrast this to AY, where you can get the economy return for �600, and then upgrade the longer leg (HEL-wherever) for �3-400 (if available, which it usually has been) giving you a total cost of < �1400 return compared to their actual sale price of business being ~�2100. Of course, AY product is substantially inferior to EK but their upgrade pricing makes more sense to me.

Actually thinking about this, and for 5,000 bat extra ( $150 USD maybe?) I could have purchased the full-fare business class, earned more tier miles, and have access to the J lounge in BKK.

J lounge access is $100 USD? So I only saved $50. For $50 I think the more tier mile were worth it. Not sure why most people here said it's a "no-brainer"

I don't think anyone would purchase an economy ticket and then also purchase the upgrade 'offers' for each segment because as you say it is quite obvious the price would be the same. The bonus of the upgrade emails is that you can choose to fly a particular segment in J then stay in Y for the rest of your flights which is something you cannot normally do via a cash purchase.
