Rough Estimate needed please

I have tried to ask Emirates themselves but they can't give me an estimate of how many points I would need to upgrade my economy saver ticket to business.

I do understand the reasons behind WHY they can't give this to me, so please no lectures on that. I am simply looking for other people's experiences so I can figure out if i have enough points.

My flight is from Manchester (England) to Auckland (New Zealand) via Dubai. I would want an upgrade for at least the 18 hour flight, but ideally for the whole thing.

Thanks in advance

What sort of "points" do you have? If Emirates Skywards' Miles, there's a calculator on their website, but Emirates should also have been able to tell you. Economy Saver tickets cannot be upgraded until check in opens 48 hours before your flight.

its 140k Miles man to Auckland - I doubt youll get an upgrade all the way through as youll need D class on all segments which is hard to get on the longer flights

i have 12,000 skywards points, but a friend has some she won't use and said i can have them if i need them.

I looked at the calculator but it for some reason only showed how much to buy a business class seat outright, not how much it would cost to upgrade from economy

thats why i posted on here

It will cost to transfer miles from one account to another, but if your friend has enough for the upgrade in her account then she can do it for you. "Manage A Booking" then log in using her details.

If you look under the Economy tab on the calculator, you will see how many miles it takes to buy an economy ticket, but also how many to upgrade to the next class of service (which is business). Do three queries: Manchester to Dubai, Dubai to Auckland and Manchester to Auckland. Sometimes you can find D class availability all the way, but as m3red also indicates that is not easy. The more flexible you are with respect to dates, the better your chances. Unfortunately 12000 miles will not get you anywhere.

Out of curiosity, why do you think they can't give you this info ?

12k points won't get you you much. On a saver fare, it's 39K points to upgrade just the MAN-DXB leg (one way).

12000 points!!! Wow. Might get you a couple if bottles of wine from the Skywards store but I doubt it will get you upgraded anywhere.

Surprisingly I have found this not to be the case. I have been tracking D tickets for next week and there is availability most if not every day, as of yesterday. More so surprisingly on the AKL - DXB segment.
