Please post your 2018 Operational Upgrade Experiences in this thread.
Around the middle of 2016, Emirates modified their Operational Upgrade Policy favouring type of ticket over status holders, giving non status passengers on Flex and Flex Plus tickets an advantage over (for example) Silver members on a Saver ticket. During the latter half of 2016, less Op Ups were reported but we would still like to hear when they happen.

Please use the following format for ease of reading and of course, discussion is still welcome.
Example:
Upgrade given: Y - J
Upgrade location: Gate
Route: BKK-DXB
Flight number: EK385
Type of ticket: Saver
Date of travel: 040115
Tier status: Gold
Tier miles to date: 18,000
Skywards miles balance: 80,000

Type of ticket: Y Flex
Date of travel: 16th-Jan 18

Op-Up Criteria?
If this posting delights the many golds out there... youre welcome! 😉
Recently on a CDG-DXB (A380) in Y (sadly my default location), as passengers boarded it appeared there was an over-allocation in Y by one (passenger list was apparently incorrect).
I was on the front exit row and listened to a full conversation between purser and the section supervisor - as there was two seats available in J, the purser said she will be upgrading one passenger to balance things in Y. The supervisor asked who and the purser gave the seat number of the lucky recipient (row behind me), stated his name, followed by Gold. I caught sight of the passengers gold status on his ticket as he gleefully gathered his luggage and relocated upstairs.
Let me be clear, Im not disgruntled and certainly wont lose any sleep over this as I believe if you pay for Y you get Y etc, but I am curious on the current criteria for op-ups as I am Platinum, was on a Flex-Plus ticket, travelling alone, sat in exit row. Im taking a wild, wild guess that it may have been my exit row seat that prevented what would have been a most welcome promotion?
Ive further noticed that in 9 months as Platinum I have not had a single op-up compared to a previous near 30-40% hit-rate as gold. I typically fly on EK 4-8 times a month and several of those have been full (in Y at least).
Any explainable insight on current policy? Was this just one of those days when the upgrade fairies were having a bad day or am I somehow blacklisted? 🤷🏻.♂️

Type of ticket: Y Flex
Date of travel: 31 Jan 18

Cabin was quite full, only 3 empty Y seats at T-3 OLCI. Arrived T-55min due to BKK traffic and was happy enough to get through with my checked bag but was pleasantly surprised I was op-up'd and promptly ran to the gate.

Once again the gods smiled on mrs t!
Third upgrade in the last 6 Y sectors (starting Jan 18).
Now she is Gold, so the upgrades will probably stop
.But anyway, next trip booked is in J Saver so little or no potential (CPT/DXB/AMS - LGW/DXB/CPT)

Theoretically yes, of course. But I have read so many stories from people where the upgrades stopped after reaching gold that I am wondering. No real cause and effect of course! Just my cynical mind.... Or my warped sense of humour. 😜🙄

I'm still doing ok on upgrades, I had a 12 month period of no upgrades but looks like SPMLs screwed them up for me, since I'm back to the "Emirates Meal" upgrades are back. About 50% success rate on DXB-India routes

I was on EK570 today (6th March), Y was 295/304 and there were still quite a few op-ups? How did that happen? J went 41/42 until last minute a service inspector came onboard and F was 4/8
