Adapter required?

I've always assumed the two prong audio sockets require an adapter for a typical single male 1/8 inch audio jack. Today I plugged it into one of the two ports and I have what sounds like stereo audio. Can someone confirm that I'm not crazy?

I'm on an 77W tail A6-EGZ in Economy.

was it the 3-prong triangular black with exposed copper plug? Those also have a 3.5mm jack for regular headphones AFAIK

I'm not sure if this is the case with you but I noticed that if you plug in regular single pin headphones but not all the way you can get stereo sound. I used to do this before I bought a 1-to-2 pin adapter.

This is it. 95% sure I have stereo coming out...though there is a fare bit of noise (not all noticeable when playing something).

Only four years old. It's an exit row 24K hence the different config.

I always plug in my own earphones (single 3.5mm jack) in the two-prong slot and it works perfectly fine

I would expect this to result in the same channel going to both ears, not actually stereo (separate L and R channels).

I don't feel competent to comment on your state of mind with the limited information you provide.....

Yes. Probably same sound in both ears. Therefore, not "stereo", strictly speaking.
Anyway, for inflight video, it doesn't matter at all.

The third (smaller) socket is for the noise reduction. However the two larger sockets are wired internally to give you stereo with a single pin headphone plug. If you look at your headphone jack it usually has two or three bands to get your stereo signal. These match up with the connectors inside the socket. The top two pins of the three pin jacks only match up with the L & R signals in the sockets.

Thanks, that's useful information
I have often wondered how these things were wired up internally. ^
