Seat Selection

Mr NW is EK Gold.

I have just booked 4 x economy flights to DXB at the end of March returning a week after.

When I try to pre-book seats via Mr NW's Gold account it tells me that "Preseating has been closed for this flight" and won't load the seatmap for me to select seats. It's the same for the return flight.

We are new to Emirates so please could someone tell me if this is normal on EK flights and whether there is any way to secure seat assignments. It makes a bit of a mockery of the gold benefit of complimentary seat selection if they can't in fact be booked. I could understand it if the flights were imminent but we are still 6 weeks out.

Have you tried the app or mobile website? Otherwise perhaps they expect the flight to be oversold and thus closed seat selection. Calling might help.

How is he gold if you're new to EK?

Thanks skywardhunter. I will give that a try. It may be too early as the flight is not showing up in his upcoming flights yet and I have to access the booking through MMB

Good question. He has recently achieved lifetime gold on BA so decided to give Emirates a try and in the last month has done LHR to DXB twice and LHR to SYD all in F. His outbound SYD flight just triggered the "Welcome to Silver" email followed 5 minutes later by "Welcome to Gold".

So when I go into the app I can see the seat allocation (A, B, C and D seats) but it won't let me change them due to seat selection being closed. Not a disaster if it can't be changed - Mr NW can sit with the kids in A, B, C and I'll have some peace in D) - but I would have preferred 2 pairs.

Very odd that seat selection is closed so far out though.

Indeed odd, it may be a system glitch due to his recent status changes. In this case calling would help. Don't be afraid, the EK call centre is nothing like BA from what I hear. If you key in his membership number (and be sure to get the pin from his account dashboard first) the call will be answered immediately. I actually enjoy calling EK because it almost always ends positively.

Many thanks again. I'll keep trying and if it doesn't resolve itself I'll get Mr NW to deal with it when he returns from SYD.

All sorted!

Just tried again. The seat map was wide open so booked two pairs of window + middle seats in the forward cabin and will keep fingers crossed that no one takes the two aisle seats.
