46B ist a great seat as there's a fair amount of space because it's the first of the twins. It's also an expensive seat one has to pay for. It's in a way the best row of twins as you're almost a seat width from the aisle and furthest from the lavs while still in a twin.

You can guarantee your chance of upgrading by paying the fare difference from Y-J.

Misaligned TV screens as they're on the back of two of the three seater row ahead of you. Narrower seats as tables are in the armrests. Being the first two seaters, you can put your legs into the corridor, but not really forward as the outside seat supports in front get in the way. I would always got for Row 47 where you can avoid all of these.

I'm losing my platinum this month. I didn't get one OP Up in the past year as platinum flying Business Flex. But I had like 5 as gold. Kinda disappointing.

Bummer, but it's really as a result of lower load factors (and luck, or lack thereof) than anything else.

Upgrade given: J-F
Upgrade location: text notification
Route: DXB-MLE
Flight number: EK658
Type of ticket: Flex Plus
Date of travel: Oct 29rd 2017
Tier status: Gold
Tier miles to date: 70k
Skywards miles balance: 111k

Husband and I are both gold, traveling from different starting points....he was upgraded on his way to the airport in DXB (both email and text notifications after he had checked in online) and made sure I had also been upgraded when he checked in. I was upgraded sometime after I checked in at Bahrain.

As far as I know, the email and text upgrade notifications after online check-in is new?

I've certainly never heard them mentioned before.

Was this definitely for an Operational upgrade? It seems like it would be a lot of work to get a text to you about an Op Up which are often very last minute unless it was a notification about being preticketed? Sorry for being dense, just trying to understand.

That is sort of why I mentioned it here. It was an Op Up, but the notification seemed odd. It may have been because he had a mobile boarding pass?

When I checked in for my first flight, they said business was oversold by 5 on the flight to MLE. My husband had checked-in online and had a mobile boarding pass. He got both an email and text while on the way to the airport saying something to the effect of "you have been upgraded on flight EK658....your new seat assignment is 2E". (honestly caused him a little panic as I had not been upgraded when I checked in for my flights and he didn't want the upgrade if I hadn't also gotten one).

When he got to the check-in counter at DXB they confirmed his upgrade, and mine as well- our reservations were linked but different numbers. I just walked up to the transit counter after transit security and got a new boarding pass.

Is an operational upgrade a free upgrade?

Yes, it is an operational decision, necessitated generally by a lack of seats in a lower cabin to accommodate those passengers with confirmed reservations, resulting in some excess passengers, generally based on a mix of status and fare type/cost, to be moved to a higher cabin

It wasn't, EK doesn't acknowledge that operational upgrades exist. It was discussed on here recently (a month or two ago), I think it happened around August.

Full priority ranking to the best of our knowledge can be seen here: https://www.flyertalk.com/wiki/index...ry_Upgrades.29

Plats definitely seem to have been bumped to the top of the list (again). As Plat had a DXB-LHR last week which I booked in Economy Flex and upgraded to Business with miles. At boarding I was upgraded to First. Was surprised, as I thought award or mileage upgrade travel would have been excluded or at least only considered with a very low priority. Wasn‘t complaining, though actually first op up in nearly 2 years despite being Plat and having flown on some pretty full flights in Business where people were op upped to First from Business...
