Was told at the lounge that my flight to LGW the other day was 25 oversold and that I was in a good position for an op-up. No luck though but a girl who was blue got an op-up behind me! She went crazy about it...but not sure why she got one and why I didn't?

Does anyone know if QF issues tickets on EK metal (i.e. QF flight number operated by EK) eligible for op ups?
I'm not sure how saver/flex/flex plus would translate but as EK plat this isn't much of an issue. |
20 plus y to j on ek17 this morning...

I always fly the same route - DUS-DXB-BKK and was always upgraded about 75% of the time when I was a Silver member. Between 2015 - 2016, I got my Gold membership and suddenly there were no more upgrades - more like about 25% or none. Now I am back to being a Silver member and the last trip I took I was upgraded both the outbound and inbound (4 sectors in total) flights. Maybe it is better for me to be a Silver member. More upgrades.
My husband and my 17 y.o son otoh who are just Blue members are upgraded at least one sector both outbound and return flight. Sometimes they get better seats than me even. They get seats like 12A or 14A whereas I get seats right next to the bar. I am gracious for the upgrades and of course won't complain but it just seems odd (at the time) a Gold member gets the last row seat and the Blue member gets one of the best seats. We are not under the same booking code and their tickets are saver fares whereas mine is Flex or Full Flex. The only pattern Isee is both my husband's and my son's first name starts with A. I don't know if that means anything or not but other than that I don't see any other reason. Oh some of my upgrades (esp. DXB to DUS) were done long....and I mean really long!.... before the flight. Some trips, I get the upgrade at the check in for the next sector which is 14 hours later. I once got the upgrade even before I left the house making the upgrade nearly 18 or 19 hours. There is nothing more pleasant than knowing you get the upgrade even before you leave the house. Again on my last trip, so many people were upgraded - one of the passengers was flying the first time on Emirates, let alone being a member. I was curious so I asked what kind of ticket he got. He bought it from a travel agent (a German guy) as a package deal so it is not flex fare or anything like that. Some lucky dude :). |

I'm not sure how saver/flex/flex plus would translate but as EK plat this isn't much of an issue. I had a J to F upgrade two years ago on a QF coded and ticketed flight, Would've been a 'saver' type fare. Don't know how it might work under the current regime. |
I am a Silver and have done 18 flights on EK this year always in Economy Flex or Flex plus. My routing is usually DUB - DXB - RUH. Dublin flights are usually quite full in Y. I haven't received an op up on any flights, am I just supremely unlucky?

Newbie question
Dear fellow travelers.
I am new to the Emirates gang having suffered from the Etihad / Airberlin desaster recently. I asked for a match from Topbonus Platinum and were granted Skyqards Gold. I understand from this post that as a Gold member I will be on the list just after Platinum (any fare) and then sorted by fares. Assuming I fly DUS or FRA - HYD very soon. How would you see my chances of being upgraded from a Y Flex fare? Are passengers upgraded only if Y is overbooked? My recent flights had many free seats in Y. Just looking for some newbie guidance :) Thanks and all the best FlyDUS |
