Not really. They pay more ;-) EU-DXB-SYD could take Y flex+ instead.

If it was on a true profitability basis, DXB based flyers would always be top of the list :D

Then, it means that DXB based pax are favoured !

One question : prices considered for the UG list are excluding travel agent's commission or not ? (no intention to be constructive here, just to show how mean it can get)

UG list is sorted by fare type (Flex Plus, Flex, Saver etc) and within that by status and within that by fare bucket as I understand it. So Flex over Saver. Within all Flex pax Plat over Silver and within all Flex Plats M over T or something.

Well I just got a Flex "U" ticket, and I've recently been downgraded to Silver.

Flying out from GIG x DXB, which is normally overbooked in Economy. So will see if this new structure helps.

That's always going to happen in extraordinary circumstances. If they need to do some last minute switching, they may just look for somebody travelling alone and op-up them.

I'm reliably informed a flight I'm on soon is 37 over in y!!!

I'll be losing my shower slot to the op ups...

There are always these exceptions.

First upgrade goes to IO members and then it's after booking class and within that after status.

EK Upgrade Policy

I heard from a flight attendant today that EK's complimentary upgrade policy is based on $ spend on that particular ticket. She told me that someone who has paid for a flex ticket will get upgraded before any elite who paid less for their ticket for that flight.

Is it me or is that CRAZY? Emirates needs to look at expenditure by the customer over the long term and not on one particular flight?

Was she telling the truth?

Yes, this is well known and has been the case for approximately 2 years now. It's not based on actual $ spend but it is ranked as follows:

Any Plat ranked by fare type (Flex Plus etc)
Flex Plus ranked by status
Flex ranked by status
Saver ranked by status

So status does still provide priority within the fare type, and Plats are ahead of everyone, even if they are on the cheapest ticket.

On an average flight there might be fewer than 5 pax in Y on Flex Plus tickets, around 30-50% on Flex and the balance on Saver or Specials (my guesstimate), so as a Gold on a Flex ticket (which is what I usually am) you're still probably in the top 10.

That being said, FAs have no involvement in the operational upgrade policy and whatever this FA knows is anecdotal at best. EK doesn't make this information public
