Upgrade email

Last year I got an email before an Emirates flight about upgrading which didn't include Lounge/chauffeur etc.
I'm travelling next week Jnb-dxb-dub in y and was interested in you guys confirming do they still send out these offers?

Thanks in advance

Yes, they still send them out. But don't assume you'll get one, as they are sent randomly.

The trigger is just when the overbooking forecast for Y hits a certain threshold - i.e. when they want to avoid invol offload. For instance I had an email offer 3 days before a flight this week. That said, I didn't actually buy the ticket until a week out

Also in the situation where the forecast is completely empty for J!

Isn't it when it passes to airport control at t-72 hours?

I have a flight I want to upgrade to F that I am waitlisted for - its over in Y and J but I guess they won't confirm until 5 days out like last time so they can then sell our J seats which may or may not be more likely than selling the F seat.

For all my searching I found miles and upgraded Dxb to Dub and you guys were right no miles upgrades on jnb-dxb.
Last year on our Syd-dxb service there were only 12 people in J on the a380!

Nope - airport control has nothing to do with the upgrade emails, it's all ordered centrally by DXB. Don't forget most airport control is outsourced anyway, so I think EK don't want to let any external contractor anywhere near revenue

Generally Yes but I got lucky and was able to upgrade Y flex to J in mid April for JNB-DXB-HYD.

But the 9am departure which tends to be emptier.

regular upgrade I assume, he/she was speaking from a upgrade offer (discounted upgrade offer), never seen it for JNB

Yes but even regular upgrade availability is rare. Which is what I was getting at. If J is always full they won't send upgrade offers to Y pax.

I got the upgrade email today for a flight in four days. MAN-DXB 425GBP, no lounge or car. Not worth it to me on a day flight.

have to agree that these upgrade email offers are rarely good value. ive had them quite a few times on DUB-DXB route and have never been tempted. If you wanted to spend that amount you could have booked Business Saver in advance for probably less, and gotten all the benefits
