In any case - when new IFE is eventually appears across the entire fleet, the worries will be solved: fully powered USB charge ports

Only if they are USB 2.0 (or i need to buy another adapter).

I know lots of people are giving me techniques for how to save battery life which I appreciate but that's not the point of my post.

Since EK has chargers in their seats, why can't they make them work? Imagine your IFE worked as intermittently as your charger...that wouldn't be acceptable right?

I guess my thought is, stand behind your product, a charger should charge...maybe I ask too much lol

Old IFE USB ports aren't designed for power: they are dependant on the IFE software working as well - I might take a USB meter on board next trip, but I think it's only around 0.2A current on the old IFE.

The new IFE with the blue LED lighting up the USB ports deliver at least 1A power independently of the IFE system's software working, so that should be more reliable.

I would agree with that - mostly.

There is the issue of he power needed for some devices. Older iphones for example drew far less power than the newer devices. So, in that case, the charger works.

Also, if the phone is not running anything, it may well charge just fine. But, if you are running programs that such up more juice than the charger can replace, then it is not always the charger.
