Baggage Allowance
Hello all
I am a few weeks out from my first flight with Emirates.
Flying CPT- DXB, then onto MAN after a few days stopover.
Vast majority of my flights are with BA, and baggage allowance is given in bags, i.e. 2/3 up to 23kg each.
On my Emirates booking (in Y), allowance is stated as 30kg- please can someone tell me if this means 1 bag up to 30kg, or can be for example 2 bags totaling 30kg?
Thanks in advance
Kenny

piece concept only for flight to/from US. you have an allowance of 30kg, doesnt matter how many bags.

The agent could charge 10Kg excess fees since one of the passengers will be within their limit and the other will be over by 10Kg
There is no entitlement to be able to pool allowances
You may well get away with doing it, but you would be safer to ensure that neither passenger exceeds 30Kg

Still remember seeing on Ultimate Airport Dubai the family from the sub-continent checking in a ridiculous amount of TV's and the agent said their pooled allowance was 600Kg
Would be quite disappointing if the airline wouldnt let them pool their allowance.

It is a risk , albeit low, which would have quite an impact if forced to pay for 10Kg of baggage and likely to be v annoying if it is something that could have been avoided

Be careful if you and your companion are on separate tickets. On a recent trip NBO-DXB-VCE, I was travelling with 8 family members and there were four separate PNRs and the agent therefore refused to pool our allowance. Ironically, being gold I had the highest allowance and the least luggage followed by my dad who is silver and also only had a 21" suitcase. Everyone else had to give us their heavy 28" bags to check in on their behalf and the process took an hour.

I am flying J from PRG to KUL next month, baggage is not a issue as i am only going for 1 week, but out of curiosity I have 40kg allowance via my J class status plus 12kg add-on.
whats the 12kg add-on all about - why did i get this?
my other two colleagues traveling don't have it and only have the standard 40kg.
just curious.

Silver members are entitled to a guaranteed excess baggage allowance of 12 kg above the ticketed limit for a particular cabin class, Gold members are guaranteed 16 kg above the ticketed limit and Platinum members are guaranteed 20 kg above the ticketed limit.

Due to your Silver status with EK:

but it does answer my question.

No extra allowance on U.S. flights
The web site says that neither class of service nor Skywards status gives extra allowance beyond two pieces on U.S. flights.
What's the rationale for this? Do they ever make exceptions upon check-in? (When I checked in for my short-haul flight to DXB, with a stopover en route to the U.S., the supervisor told me that they would likely grant me another piece as Gold in J, but of course this isn't definitive.)

Also the excess fees are quite low at USD150 for an additional piece of 23/32 Kg if purchased online and $175 at the airport
