I know this is like kicking you in the teeth, but I actually use Expert Flyer....

For EK - isn't "A" is a purchased ticket not a Flex award.... or so I thought

It is quite possible that the same Booking Class is used for both purposes.

makes sense - tough to know if there is space though. Would I see it with your tool?

KVS Tool does support EK A Class, but you may wish to double-check with EK to make sure they still use it for Flex F Awards.

You must look for Saver Reward flights in the class you want to upgrade to. These come from the same fare bucket as upgrades themselves.

Do not confuse these with Flex Reward flights as these come from a different fare bucket.

Ah ok that make sense! I had in mind that it's the same booking class but never thought about searching for saver fares in J.
Thanks for the advice!

skywards miles upgrade difficulty

Has anybody had difficulty upgrading existing tickets with skywards miles with respect to availability?

Is there a certain timeframe (e.g. 1 week or 1 day before) in which availability tends to open up? I understand it is a different quota than revenue fare reservations but it is pointless to have these skywards points if availability is scarce to absent to begin with?

Several people have reported poor availability of upgrades on here.

I've never personally come across it and think it is very route dependant.

Availability often re-opens about 3 days before the flight.

Have other flyers here experienced this before? That is, awards upgrades being made available again closer to the date of travel? I have looked on this forum a little bit and can't seem to find examples of this happening (maybe i'm not using the search function optimally).

I think the flight I was wishing to upgrade is overbooked in Y, so with regards to the principle that awards would be made available on a quota basis, how likely would it be that more upgrades would be made available closer to departure date (18-dec)?

I'm genuinely curious about the strategy aspect here .

Oh yes, awards definitely open up again nearer the flight. That's why I use ExpertFlyer to notify me when awards open up.

In my experience, awards have opened up exactly a week before the flight. Some people have seen 3 days.

Thanks, I shall hope something opens up tomorrow then. Nothing happened last thursday (had an expertflyer alert set up), so hopefully the 3 days windows will apply here.

I had even called emirates asking about further availability, the lady said "it is unlikely", but I don't know how reliable that info is, so might as well ask the frequent flyers.
