Emirates award availability.
The upgrade award (with miles) availability from economy to business class for flights from LAX to DXB seems to be very scarce. I was told by Emirates agent that the entire week around the date I am traveling in september has zero upgrade availability for LAX-DXB route. But the agents hinted that upgradable seats might open up later.
Should I wait for a few months to see if upgradable seat opens up, or should I buy a business class ticket now in case the fare goes up later? any experience getting upgrade from economy to business using skyward miles in LAX-DXB route? |
Upgrade availability opens up T-6 weeks all the way to T-48 hours from recent experience

So you're saying I should wait until first week of august to check for availability if I'm traveling in mid-September (the week of 9/15).... ??? |

That's weird because I can see many business class award seats via alaska.
I don't think I have enough miles to redeem a business seat straight for the LAX-DXB route. I have inquired a few times, and I've been told each time by the Emirates telephone agents that there is no upgradeable seats available using skyward miles. |

Upgrades come from "saver" award inventory AFAIK. There are "flex" award seats around your travel dates but these can't be used for upgrades. So you can book a flex award seat now, but not an upgrade. But there are saver awards for almost every day from the 20th onwards. You can see all this on emirates.com.

Unfortunately, Emirates.com does not let me take a peak at award availability as I don't have enough miles yet.
How many miles do I need for saver awards on business class? |

Emirates DXB- LAX
Hi,
Does anyone know the traffic usually on this flight, I'm looking to see if the A380 is normally at full capacity and whether points upgrades are common for J seats? |

Emirates.com lets you check availability of any reward seats as long as you have a Skywards membership number and can log in.
