EK ticket date change query....

EK ticket date change query....
I have a ticket that’s been issued by a Travel agent in the UK for the following routing on EK:
MAA – DXB – LGW/ LGW – DXB – MAA.
Date of Travel is 17/4 onward and 20/4 return. I'm base level on the EK program and all this travel is in Economy class.
Am looking at moving the return ticket by a few days and am willing to pay the associated fees as well for the date change & fare class difference if any.
Here's the problem: For some reason, the emirates office here in MAA is refusing to change the date saying that the trip hasn’t commenced and so only after I complete the onward leg of the flight and post arriving in the Uk can I make the return flight date change. The TA who has booked the ticket is also saying the same thing.
Found this to be rather strange. Any way around this folks..??

Normally, the booking agent is the only entity that can change a ticket before travel has commenced (this would be your UK agent.) However, I have had luck with EK changing a ticket issued by a travel agent before travel commenced. Have you tried calling EK in the UK, they might be more equipped to make the change. If they refuse, the onus is on your TA though.
