Well I phoned EK in Mauritius again this morning and they say no - I said are you sure as I know several people who have done this.
They said they will have to check with Skywards and it's Friday and will get back to me on Monday - and then the upgrade availablity may have gone. Oh well, will let you know the outcome. Thanks again. I will have to make do with 6b :D |

Take the one that is available now.
If the other one becomes available, and you prefer to upgrade on it, you can cancel the one already booked and swap to the new one. No cost in miles for this (assuming they're both from saver or both from flex), and APD should be transferred as well. |

I've been told there should be availability in the original booking class if you want to cancel an upgrade and move back to your original class.
I was just sounding them out today before booking the upgrade and the Mauritius office were negative and said it can't be done. So I will see on Monday when they get a reply from Dubai. |

The excess APD for a Y-J upgrade was £85 earlier this year from LGW to DXB. I don't know if its higher now.
I suspect you were going somewhere further and paid the Band C rate of £83 (or your flight is not until next April at the earliest, as the rates increase by £2 then which would give the £85 figure). |

Upgrade availability?
How do you guys check "upgrade availability"?
I am booked J on EK384 on 02/12/13. A/Craft = A380 and Silver Skywards member. Upgrade availability to F? Thks |
Subscription to Expert Flyer or by looking for Saver Reward availability in the class you want to upgrade to on the Emirates site.
There's currently nothing in First on either DXB-BKK or BKK-HKG on the date you want. |
Feedback on my dilemma - EK guy in Mauritius got back to me this morning as promised and confirmed that I can book the upgrade that's currently available and then if the one I really want on December 30th (EK017 DXB-MAN) becomes avaialble I can cancel that one and rebook it.
Thanks for all your advice here! :D |

Why is mru dxb 30k miles flex to upgrade for 6.30 hr flight where as dxb to man usually 7.5hours is 25k flex!
Go figure which is better value....but man dxb dxb man d class is hard to come by these days! DXB to subcontinent north (DEL/BOM) 12500 miles for a 3 hr flight ( slightly less in fact) DXB to subcontinent south (BLR/COK) 20000 miles. ( just over 4 hours) Extra 7500 miles for an hour extra travel.!!!!. A fair amount should be 16500 or even 17000 miles. |
All to do with the zones rather than distances I think.
I win flying from GLA as it's the furthest out from DXB in my zone. I also won going to CPT a couple of months ago as it was probably the furthest in the Africa South/West zone. You lose going to Mauritius as it's comparatively close to DXB in it's zone (also Africa South/West). |
