Well, the massage is complementary and the FCL is probably the best part of being a platinum. But that's about it..

Plat experience

This might be slightly contrarian given what I'm reading here. I hit platinum this July and personally find it to be much better than gold (whereas I was unimpressed with gold vs silver). Highlights:
->I've probably been op-upped J-F on roughly 50% of flights since then, which is a significant improvement on my 4 years as gold (could count # of upgrades on one hand, even though my surname begins with 'A')
->The FCL is special, we all seem to agree
->My travel plans can be fairly last-minute on busy routes, so the 24-hour business seat guarantee is really useful. And last-seat flex award rocks!
Agree though with some of the comments on in-flight service: I am yet to be offered turn-down service in business or even first on the A380, despite dozens of opportunities. No change since I hit plat. The call centre folks seem a lot more solution-oriented, however.

Re upgrades, give it a year or so. You might be right, but the way I see it op-ups are a throw of the dice. Some of my best op-up experiences were as a Silver. You might have hit a momentary rich vein.

FCL, in Dubai, but only Dubai. Plat costs me nothing, but if I had to pay for the privilege for FCL access, I'd probably let it go.

Business seat guarantee, with all its caveats, yes.

But, when you think that you get just that for flying up to THREE TIMES more than a Gold....it makes me wonder. Gold is twice as much flying as a Silver, and roughly two flex Js more, but step from Gold to Plat requires a hella lot more flying.

There should be tier at100 or75k. Apparently golds with 75plus will be gold ++ but who knows when they will sort that out.

Thanks.

I'm patently crap at searching the site... ;)

You can be WP and go into Dubai FCL, but they *will* make you use QFF as the points earning partner.

So..theoretically shall we say....let them add your QFF WP number to the reservation...go inside...log into Skywards....change the FFP to the one of your choice......

...theoretically. ;-)

I'll have my first trip as freshman Platinum next week. I'm happy that complimentary massage is also for plats, not related to the booked class.

I think its free for everyone who has access to the F lounge. I've personally never taken it though my wife has, and she is just a 'nominated' gold.

New top tier of EK Skywards membership being fine-tuned right now, and set for launch on Jan 1 2014.

"Skywards Rhodium"

You heard it here first ........

They took forever to introduce Platinum. What's the hurry to introduce a new tier again?

Too many new QF members diluting the perceived value of EK Gold & Plat since the start of the partnership/code share agreement ; hence the need to create a sense of distinction & exclusivity.

Not sure quite what the benefits/criteria will be, guess we just have to wait till launch date.

Coming to an airport near you soon ......
