DXB-CPH 30 dec 2013... no recognition, no "welcome onboard" speech... nothing. Happens quite often on the CPH-DXB-CPH routing for some reason.

If the purser does come around, I like to ask them for something... they never seem to expect it. usually if I am in Y, I ask if they can bring my food choice first with the special meals (with a red wine of course). Sometimes they refuse (usually on A380 as they say that they are too busy) but it mostly works.

I have had the Plat level since October 2013 and the only real benefit is the extra 4kg of luggage... everything else is haphazard and really depends on who is in the crew on that day

QF Platinum

Wasn't expecting one and was pleasantly surprised to get an OpUp (at the Gate) to F departing CMB a couple of weeks ago.

Ozziebob - With regards to the meal choice first this has been clarified to all EK staff that this is not the standard way of doing things now and its been communicated to politely say that this is the standard. This service is only for iO's.
If you do get this than well good for you but it's no longer standard I'm afraid.

Just became Plat recently

Hi there,
I used to fly a lot with emirates since 2 years. My preferred route is DUS-DXB-PEK or PVG. On my last filght to PEK I touched the required 150K for Plat. I am curious about whether the recognition of going up from Gold to Plat is that exciting. I was Gold member the past 2 years and it was fine for me in regard to service and recognition. I totally agree with you that it heavily depends on the crew whether you feel very nicely treated or just average.
However, I think the biggest add on will be the free acces to the F loung in Dubai, because the Business Class Lounge is always packed with lots of traveller. On my return flight to DUS I will be first time Plat. Let's see whether it will be an outstanding experience as the Plat Status (on emirates webpage offers) promises you. I keep you posted once I am through that experience(s)

Its definitely not. The only big tangible benefit it F lounge access at DXB which is typically fairly empty most of the times.

This is what I recognized in that Thread. Plat is nice but by far not outstanding. It's really a pitty for a lot of flying with emirates....

Walk another few yards. The Business Lounge has not been like that for a while.

As with anything regarding frequent flier programmes and "status", setting rigid expectations based on corporate marketing is likely to result in unnecessary disappointment...there is only so much exceeding of expectations that can be done in the commercial settings of air travel...

I would advise you to simply enjoy the F lounge in DXB, additional baggage allowance and priority baggage handling and be pleasantly surprised if you receive any other bonuses!

Yes, you're so right. Because I always flew Busines Class so far the emirates experiences overall was/is very nice. Actually there' nothing really to complain even without Plat status. Sometimes I feel such a big hype about the Plat status ( or any other high status such as HON, etc.) that for many travellers it is adesirable status symbol. For me it's rather to make long haul travelling more relaxed. And yes, that's what I mentioned before, looking forward to be able to use F lounge in future.

This is the platinum experience thread, not the IO thread!!! :D You don't want to go and be cavalier about popping peoples' ego balloons, they might explode in your face for hilarious results!

To answer your question - it happened when EK refreshed the entire DXB chauffeur drive fleet. I think there was a thread about it a few months ago?

Platinum Experience 2013

IO's have never been picked up from remote stand in the first class bus, terrible just thinking about it!, has always been a car. Was range rover before the s500. Just a point of order don't want to wind any plats up. Well not too much!!

Had an exceptional experience a couple of weeks ago flying CDG-DXB. Purser walks up and says 'Mr. A, just wanna welcome you back etc....welcome home; you're our family member here at EK so give us a shout if we can do something to make your flight special'. Actually had an 'aww' moment. Guess it goes back to luck on the day, not all pursers are the same by any stretch.
