Changing/Cancelling Flight

Hello,

So currently I'm booked from NYC-Dubai and then Dubai-Delhi on the 20th and 21st of May. This is my return leg. I already did Delhi-Dubai and Dubai-NYC in the middle of January.

The new itinerary I want is: NYC-Lyon/Paris (Lyon being preference) and then Lyon/Paris to Delhi. I'm willing to do NYC-Dubai and Dubai-Lyon. And then Lyon-Dubai and Dubai-Delhi.

How much will it cost me to change my ticket? I booked economy. Will it be cheaper just to cancel and change airlines?

Thanks,
Crazysah

The cost for each very much depends on the type of ticket and fare conditions you bought. You are welcome to post more details and I'm sure a helpful person will help you out but it's probably best to price up both options with EK directly (or your TA) and see whats cheapest.

So that is exactly what I'm flying. Now someone maybe able to help and tell me what my best option is.

When trying to modify my booking and after choosing all the flights it says:
"Sorry, but there are either no flights available that meet your search criteria or this combination could not be priced. Please contact your closest Emirates office."

I don't think you can change your ticket, as I don't think JFK-DXB-LYS-DXB-DEL is a legal routing for a return portion of a ticket JFK-DEL.

The best, I think, you can hope for is to adjust your return segment so that you have a stopover in DXB. Then, buy a new ticket DXB-LYS-DXB.

How about I do this - JFK-DXB-LYS. Instead of JFK-DXB-DEL. Then just buy a new ticket from LYS-DEL on whatever airline I want.

Will that work? Or something else?
I also do have some miles so maybe I could use those too.

You could try seeing what it would cost to change JFK-DEL to something like CDG-DEL and then buy a one way ticket to LYS from JFK

You need to speak to EK and find out what you can do with existing ticket. If you have an inflexible ticket, you may be at the extreme of just having to buy brand new ticket all the way from JFK

And how much are the cancellation charges?

They should be in the Fare Conditions information if you bought it direct. If through a travel agent then their Ts and Cs apply.

Just to confirm the above. The only allowed routing is JFK-DXB-DEL.

Why is that the only allowed routing? Can't I change it to JFKD-DXB-LYS?

Ideally I want to change it to EK204 and EK081 both on Monday, 20th of May.

Because the fare rules only list JFK-DXB-DEL as a valid routing to DEL

Changing it to LYS is unlikely to be viable given that EK has no fares from JFK-LYS

If you want to take the specific flights mentioned, you will probably have to change the JFK-DXB flight to the desired date and then purchase the DXB-LYS as a separate r/t and then continue to DEL

You would be far better off calling EK and asking them what the costs would be to do what you want to do. Looking at one of the economy fares, there would be a INR3500 change fee for the existing flight ( plus any fare difference should availability not be there in the current booking class )

@Dave Noble: Is it possible to keep the JFK-DXB date as it is, buy a r/t from DXB-LYS and then change the date of the DXB-DEL leg (that I already have)? Without incurring too much costs (besides whatever the added leg costs)?

Thanks,
Crazysah

Again, it depends on the fare rules. In all probability from looking at the fares on sale, yes, but you need to either go online into your booking and make the change or phone Emirates to find out how much it will cost

1- You cannot change a ticket at the point of turnaround to return to a different country. This is an industry wide rule as far as I know.
2- Like Dave said, there are no JFK-LYS EK fares.
3- It will most likely be cheaper for you to return to DEL, then take a fresh ticket to LYS, than to add a stopover in DXB on your current ticket and get a rt ticket to LYS ex-DXB.
4- You could only do one of the following:
- Book a return JFK-LYS ticket on a different carrier, and pick up your inbound to DEL via DXB upon your return to JFK, Or
- Add a stopover in DXB on your current ticket, and book a return DXB-LYS ticket,
- Fly back to DEL as ticketed, and book a return DEL-DXB-LYS ticket.

As per pt.3, the last option might work out the cheapest.

Okay. Looking at the options. Delhi is my final destination with a trip to Lyon in the middle basically.

- So booking booking a return JFK-LYS might not work out as it turns out to be more expensive.
- Adding a stopover in DXB (meaning changing the DXB-DEL leg) will cost me around $150. A DXB-LYS ticket looks to be around $600 on Turkish (Emirates is much more expensive).
- Fly back to DEL and then book a DEL-LYS ticket is around $750-$800.

So either a stopover in Dubai or a ticket from Delhi will work out to be the best for me at this point. I don't have any other options now do I?
