This "article" seems outdated at best or innaccurate in many respects.

As far as your specific point is concerned, in my personal experience of in excess of 150 First Class flights on Emirates over the past 6 years, I heve never experienced the situation described nor have I seen it affecting anyone else.

I think this is a pointless article. I've never been displaced by anyone when travelling F. And the website that this link redirects to is so factually inaccurate, I dont even know where to begin.

The best part of this thread is the Title - reminds me of this place in Dubai - www.sheikhandshake.com - always makes me smile.

Although I can't say I have experienced this situation, a friend based in DXB tells me he has witnessed it numerous times on intra-gulf flights.

It doesn't have to be sheikhs. On a couple of flights in Y, I've found people sitting on my seat and 'pretending' to be asleep; though I've always managed to move them after speaking with the FAs.

I have seen it on flights between Dubai and Doha and vice versa on numerous occasions.
Its not so much someone is in your seat when you board, the problem arises when the aircraft has taken off and some local personnel from either Dubai or Doha realize there are empty seats in B/C or F/C and just come through the curtain and sit down.

Four weeks ago travelling from Doha to Dubai three males all wearing Dishdash Arab clothing came through the curtain on the 777-300 and took the three seats in the middle of the cabin?? The Senior Purser came to try and move them to no avail. They just laughed at him. Very embarrassing. On arrival in Dubai no security waitng at the aircraft on arrival.(Very Poor)

Is this another case of this is Dubai and normal rules don't apply? In which case can we all behave like this?

I mean, I've been toying around with the Purser's laptop (while flying F, and having other crew around). Brewing one's own coffee is hardly a crime then?

I think the real issue is that it is very difficult for a foreign Cabin Services Manager more so if female to tell these people that they are not entitled to B/C or F/C service as they have not paid for it.
I was a little embarrassed for the CSM as the "Do you know who I am?" statement was one of the very first things that was said to him. Not sure where the CSM came from although it was definitely Western Europe. Its very difficult to deal with this problem when the people are from the airlines country of origin.

I have heard of some "celebrities" from various countries using the same line and not just on airlines ...
