Seems to be a platinum pattern emerging here. Shame that even if I stick with EK I will always fll around 30K short.

Chennai upgrade
Upgrade given: Y - J
Upgrade location: Check-in desk Route: e.g. MAA-DXB Flight number: EK545 Type of ticket: Flex Date of travel: 010513 Tier status: Gold Tier miles to date: 101000 Skywards miles balance:240000 Number of pax on the same PNR: Single And of course the first letter of your surname: Actually W |
Upgrade given: J - F
Upgrade location: At the gate Route: DXB-CAI Flight number: EK923 Type of ticket: Flex Date of travel: 10/05/2013 Tier status: Platinum Tier miles to date: 47750 Skywards miles balance: 53101 Number of pax on the same PNR: Single Skywards DOJ (approx): 2006 And of course the first letter of your surname! D |
An odd one here and I didn't realise until now I'd been op-upped.
Upgrade given: Y - J Upgrade location: Check in. Route: GLA-DXB Flight number: EK26 Type of ticket: Saver Date of travel: 3/05/2013 Tier status: Gold Tier miles to date: 47750 Skywards miles balance: approx. 44,000 / 76,000 Number of pax on the same PNR: Single And of course the first letter of your surname! A The unusual bit: I had been booked on the afternoon flight (EK28) which was cancelled and had used miles to upgrade. When we checked in again for the evening flight I never even thought about what had happened to my upgrade and queued at the J counter, received a J boarding card and on I went. It's only now when I've checked my miles I see the upgrade miles have been re-instated to my account, presumably due to the cancellation of EK28. The upgrade on EK26 must therefore have been an op-up. |
Upgrade given: Y - Y (J Class seat)
Upgrade location: Online Check In Route: DXB-AMD Flight number: EK540 Type of ticket: Saver Date of travel: 17/5/2013 Tier status: Silver Tier miles to date: 35000 Skywards miles balance: approx. 53000 Number of pax on the same PNR: Single And of course the first letter of your surname! R Not really an op up but thought I would note it. I noticed after I had checked in online that my seat was changed to 8A. They moved all J class passengers to first class and used J class as an extension to Economy. The flight was not intended to have F class but 2 days prior I noticed they had changed it to an A330 with F section. |
Upgrade given: Y - J
Upgrade location: Lounge Route: MUC-DXB Flight number: EK050 Type of ticket: Saver Date of travel: 19/5/2013 Tier status: Gold Tier miles to date: 6500 Skywards miles balance: approx. 114000 Number of pax on the same PNR: Single First letter of your surname: M Add on: Got the op-up eventhough they offerd Y pax an upgrade at check-in for 280 Euros and by the looks of it many took that offer. |
Interesting reading I was once offer an op-up MRU - DXB (y to j) or travel the following day for a free LHR MRU return ticket, needless to say I too the free return ticket ;-)

My first OP up
Upgrade given: Y - J
Upgrade location: Check-in Route: KUL-DXB Flight number: EK347 Type of ticket: Flex (KUL-NCE) Date of travel: 24/5/2013 Tier status: Gold Tier miles to date: 54,750 Skywards miles balance: approx. 90,000 Number of pax on the same PNR: Single First letter of your surname: J Add on: My first flight as Gold. Never had an op up as Silver, and I was really glad when I checked in KL Sentral and the desk girls told me that I had an upgrade because the flight was full. ^ |
Got upgraded on both legs this time...
Upgrade given: J - F (but J service on EK 543) Upgrade location: Check-in Route: MAA-DXB-GRU Flight number: EK543 + EK 261 Type of ticket: Flex Date of travel: May 26 Tier status: Platinum Tier miles to date: 29k Skywards miles balance: approx. 290k Number of pax on the same PNR: Single First letter of your surname: D |
Upgrade given: Y - J
Upgrade location: Check-in/Bag drop - I'd already checked in online Route: MNL-DXB Flight number: EK333 Type of ticket: Saver (MNL - MAN) Date of travel: 28/5/2013 Tier status: Gold Tier miles to date: 66,000 Skywards miles balance: approx. 38,000 Number of pax on the same PNR: Single First letter of your surname: W This was an interesting one, the trip was an extra one, so went economy instead of business. I pre booked an upgrade for DXB - MAN, MAN to DXB I had 4 seats to myself and upon seeing how busy the outbound DXB - MNL was I upgraded once on board. I'd like to think this was a buy 2 with miles get 1 free deal but somehow I'd imagine they'd just overbooked MNL - DXB and I was one of only a few golds in Y. |
Upgrade given: Y - J, Y-J
Upgrade location: Check-in, Gate Route: BOM-DXB-BOM Flight number: EK509, EK506 Type of ticket: Flex Date of travel: Early June Tier status: Platinum Tier miles to date: 17k Skywards miles balance: approx. 250K Number of pax on the same PNR: Single First letter of your surname: S OK, for the first time in my 10+ years of flying EK I was upgraded at check-in at BOM. It wasn't as if she had to call a supervisor to release a seat, it was already done. I had checked in online and after she scanned my passport and printed out my BPs, I suddenly noticed that my BP was a J bp. Pretty much lends credence to my suspicion that BOM handled upgrades alphabetically and I never managed one as Gold because I was way way down the alphabetical pecking order and BOM DXB is a Gold heavy flight, though not Platinum heavy (max 1 or 2 in the entire plane). Several members had posted earlier that they got upgrades at check-in and I rarely every got one even at the gate, leave alone check-in in the past 10 years. Now that I hit Platinum, I guess it puts me right in front in the upgrade priority. Great - hope it continues that way! |
My first 'op up' and a good one to welcome me to Gold. Based on previous topics, here for me is a good reason to keep on flying EK as a Gold who will never reach platinum (100-120k).
Upgrade given: J - F Upgrade location: Gate Route: PVG-DXB Flight number: EK304 Type of ticket: Flex Date of travel: 31/05/2013 Tier status: Gold Tier miles to date: 49,500 Skywards miles balance: approx. 25,000 Number of pax on the same PNR: Single And of course the first letter of your surname! S The unusual bit: I couldn't OLCI for my flight......but surely if this was related they would have upgraded me at check in? One other gold was also upgraded to first too, although he got a window seat 😁. I don't think it's a Gold heavy route, I hope not because I travel it regularly (PVG-LHR). If I get the odd op-up I'm happy to stay with emirates. Otherwise direct with BA/VA maybe the answer. |

Upgrade Location : Gate, Lounge Route : BOM-DXB, JFK-DXB Flight No: EK501, EK202 Date of Travel : 2nd week of April 2013 Tier Status : Gold at the beginning, Plat at the end :) Tier Miles to Date : 37K Number of Pax on PNR: 1 Skywards D o J: 2002 First Letter of Surname: S This was my platinum qualifying flight, so the EK202 u/g was definitely appreciated :). Great way to hit Plat! I had upgraded the EK500 leg to F already so the whole JFK to BOM leg was in F including lounge access. Another thing I noticed was that I seemed to be the only F pax transiting DXB, the remaining 13 all went off to baggage claim. Just probably an indicator of where most of the F traffic originates from.... And no plats on 202 which was surprising, except an i/o member in 1A |
