1. Can I exit and re-enter the airport for the second leg of my flight even if I'm not using the official Dubai Connect service?
2. I assume I'll have to pay for my own taxi to/from any outside hotel? 3. Will I have to re-check-in when I return to the airport for my flight to Sn Francisco (after being checked-in and given BPs for both flight segments in Bangkok)? 4. I assume I'll not have access to my checked bags so will have to pack any changes of clothes and needed toiletries on my carry-on bags? 5. I've used the F lounge in Dubai before but not for this long. Are there private sleeping rooms (other than the airport hotel) in the lounge or only the "quiet area" sleeping loungers? I qualify for the free Dubai visa on arrival scheme so leaving the airport and going to an outside hotel is not a problem. Thanks for any replies. If travelling in J or F you may have access to chauffeur drive, at least to leave the airport. |

Your outbound doesn't qualify due to the reason given above by jackiedada. On your return, there's a BKK flight 3 hours after the SFO one lands so that should disqualify that leg too. To answer your questions:
Yes, yes, no, yes, don't know. |

Thanks for the input. Yes, I was surprised the return leg qualifies for DC...as there are scheduled onward flights to Bangkok available.

As ft101 says with one comment, you can ask them to short check your bags to DXB if you need access but I'd recommend just packing what you need in hand luggage.

Never heard of a "short check" before...nice to know but like you say, probably easier to must take a change of clothes or my EK jammies with me to the hotel and let EK ship the bags all the way through.

From what I've read on here if you show up at the desk with your BP it shouldn't be a problem to get a car, others who have done it should be able to confirm though as I haven't tried

if you've booked a fare where a 'normal' stopover (more than 24h in DXB) is permitted, you are entitled for the chauffeur drive. you can either do a go-show in Dubai or call the call center and book the car in advance

My stopover is only 14 hours and isn't part of the official Dubai Stopover campaign...I'm just doing it on my own. Could I possible do a stopover for just the one day...my ticket would be for one flight booking?

nothing to do with the stopover programm. if the fare itself allows a stopover in Dubai, you can request the car even if you are there for 14h. if stopovers in general are not permitted, you should not get a car for the 14h
"3 free stopovers permitted on the pricing unit...1 in BKK...1 in DXB in each direction. A stopover may not exceed 14 days." So I guess I can request a limo airport transfer to a local hotel on the segment that doesn't include the Dubai Connect service. Thanks for the info. |

It's a little bit odd it states a "stopover" is permitted in Bangkok, when the flight originates and terminates in Bangkok.
So on each DBX arrival, I can have a bite in the lounge and then exit the terminal to my hotel for a snooze of 8 hours or so and then return to the terminal and lounge a few hours before my onward flight? If so, that will be very nice. |
If I wish to spend a couple days in Dubai as a stopover on my return, would I need to book my flight as a multiple city itinerary using the Advanced Search tab? Would it be considered an official stopover?

Dubai Connect on a ticket bought from a non Emirates website
Anyone use Dubai Connect on a ticket bought from a non Emirates website? The Emirates website says to get the travel agent you booked with to do it. How reliable is a website like Flight Network or Expedia to get this right?
