I've had success with this as well - 5 months ago with my BOM-LHR trip. However, whenever I've called the local EK office at BOM they've hardly been helpful. I've had to call DXB and then specifically ask for the 2 seats held under "Gold Rewards". The staff member (Filipino accent, so I guess there ways no way he was based out of BOM....) kept me on hold for 5 minutes went and asked his supervisor and then came back and confirmed the seats for me. I think if you want to get your seats confirmed, call during normal DXB working hours at the DXB number - if you get connected to the Indian call center, try again/ call another day.
