Why does EK not fly to Bali ?

EK has conquered the world. Virtually any major airport is served by EK even some vague African airports like HRE or LUN.
But a popular tourist destination like DPS not ??
Just extend the route to CGK / SIN / KUL to DPS ?
Is there a reason for that these Emirati sheikhs do not do this ?

Because Bali is a sad, overpriced copy of Koh Samui that lives on ripping off the tourists ?

Yes, we have had many discussions on this topic given the commercial rationale. It is a matter of time.

What I learned from being here in the ME region, Indonesia (and Malaysia) is quite popular among GCC countries being a islamic country. Almost everyone I speak to at my Saudi client has been to both countries whereas for example Western visitors to Malaysia are much rarer .. I don't find a lot of Germans flying to there.

Why does EK not fly to Bali ?

Obviously you have not been to the better parts of Bali. I am guessing your trip was the equivalent of judging new York on a visit to jersey

Hear hear! Whenever I 'hear' people making such comments it's like judging Spain purely on your weekend in Ibiza.

Bali is magical. Tourism is rising massively. I've made a couple of comments recently as Indonesia is as the worlds 4th largest country (with massively increasing middle class) - i'm amazed that EK doesn't fly more than twice a day. Mind you, when I first flew Emirates (to Jakarta) i'm sure it was a 3 times a week hop via Colombo and Singapore, so the twice a day A330 is a big improvement.

I've learnt a fair bit on this forum, and Bali will come, but I believe that Surabaya may come first. There was belief inside the country for a couple of years (please don't take this as fact - it's cobbled together rumours) that Lombok was to be targetted first as the new airport was linked to dnata (or subsiduary) owning half of Lombok's south coast. Subsequent rumours were that financial issues meant that the land has been taken back, and Lombok has been left with a shiny airport much further away from where 99% of the tourist go (north west coast).

Then there was the 4th EK flight to SIN which has perfect timings for a quick add-on (with the Indo EK manager making a couple of comments along the lines of 'Emirates is coming!'). But that didn't happen.

QR has been impressed (3 a week to daily). Cargo is reportedly a big earner. Emirates doesn't mind an add-on leg or two.

So in answer to your question, I don't know

It will happen when we're not looking for it. But it will happen!

The SIN add on won't happen because that flight is going to 380 from Jan 2013. Btw it's 2x 773s to CGK, not A332s.

That could be the answer just here. People will be prepared to book reward tickets if Bali came online, but who is prepared to pay revenue tickets. And pay enough for the route to be a profitable one?

I highly doubt it. Bali is a tourist destination, and tourists pay money. If there are any $500+/night resorts there, those people often fly J or F, and often by paying for it. Since I don't know anything about Bali, are there $500+/night resorts there?

Quite a few, and upwards of that. Just look at MLE and SEZ - EK flies 77Ws there, for the flying time, these are probably the most expensive destinations from DXB, and I'm pretty sure it's not business travelers filling up those planes!

Just had a look at the new airport being constructed in DPS. Was informed that it will be A380 capable.......

I had the impression that majority of the tourists with western looks (have to be careful with what I said...lol) are Australians from Perth alike places to DPS. Unless EK flies DXB-DPS-PER, I doubt DPS would start soon until much later years when EK have too many aircrafts to operate.
