Im new here, so hopefully i didn't post in the wrong forum - plz forgive me if i did..

I need some advice, and hopefully you guys can maybe point me in the right direction

Im going to be flying from CPH-MEL (with a stopover somewhere) about 3-4 times pr. year the next couple of years. Im not sure what airline to chose, and what airline has the a good reward program (since I'm going to be flying a lot of miles)/best seats - since its going to be some long hours in the air.

Im going to fly F or J. I have flown with Qatar airways in J from CPH-BKK and it was quite good - they had some nice lie-flat seats from Doha to BKK.

I was thinking about trying Emirates - but I'm not sure if the have fully lie-flat beds in J class - i know they have in F. For a novice like me, its quite hard to see what kind of miles you will get, and how many points you need to spend to redeem award tickets.

From October Emirates will be running the A380 on the EK 406/407 direct flight to Melbourne and that has lie flats in J

Thanks for your reply. It would be a partially lie flat on the trip from CPH to DXB i guess and then i would be able to sleep from DXB to MEL.

I guess it would only be on the A380 that EK has lie flats in J ?

There are 3 flights daily from DXB to MEL and vice versa.

I would guess your choice of flights in and out of Dubai would also depend on connecting time from Copenhagen? We are travelling Glasgow-Melbourne return in November, J class, done it number of times before; thoroughly recommend Emirates.

The 380 has fully flat 180 degree beds in J. The 77W has lie flats, which are very comfortable to sleep in. There's an older version with recliners, but these will definitely not be on your MEL flights, could be on the CPH flights but unlikely. The bar on the 380 is also good for whiling away time on a long flight.

Well most probably i will have to do with recliner seats from CPH no matter what airline and what ticket i buy - at least i have not heard of any. I guess its ok, since its a 5.5 hour flight and it will be a day flight.

Sounds nice with the bar on the A380 - what I'm concerned about is my hight - I'm a tall guy 6'5 and the pictures i have seen from EK business it seems like they are pretty narrow and the lengths in those "plastic shells" doesn't seem that long ?

On the other hand - the suites look nice, and looks like there is enough space for a guy like me.

On a side note - i guess making anther stop in Singapore - wouldn't be bad to stretch legs.

I must say tho, I'm pretty scared if i get "stuck" in an angled seat all the way from DXB or Singapore..if they decide to change aircraft.

I travel CPH - DXB once a month, depending on aircraft (sometimes 77-200 sometimes 77-300ER) the J section is with fully LF seats.

Hope they start to replace some of the old 77-200 the 300 is MUCH more comfortabel (Had the luck to travel with Emirates 777 "no. 1000" from Hamburg a few month ago... WOW a quiet aircraft!!!!^^^

That is incorrect. Only the A380 has fully flat in J with EK. The 777s have at best an angled lie flat.

I have never flown A380 - but i read, that the J seat is in a "capsule" so it feels tiny - dont know if that is correct ? But im abit concerned about that since im a pretty tall guy.

I'm 6'4 and the A380 in J was fine, actually better than fine I loved it.

Plenty of room, it didn't feel tight or tiny to me at all. As the above posters say A380 is lie flat compare to the other J product from emirates which is angled flat (or sometimes much worse, reclining i think they call it!) I have used all (I think) of emirates J and F seats and the best in J is by far the A380.

But of course if you want the best then the suites is the way to go in F!

EDIT: Also to be fair the angled flat seats have never been a problem for me, and the service on the 777's compared to the A380 is much better.

Key for me is feet space and even at my height I don't kick the chair in front which doesn't happen often in a plane!!!

Well I'm probably going to try the suites in F and try the A380 - i should be able to try and see what the seats in J are like for me, so i can get a first hand impression.

What about seats in F - are they all flat seats no matter what aircraft ?
Or is it "just" the suites - that have flat seats ?

All Boeing aircraft in the fleet have flat beds in F. However the suites offer a better product (superior) than the old configured 777s
