Probably. I wouldn't know.

I either buy those airside or nick them from the lounge.

Golds used to be able to check-in at the First/Business check in area and use the dedicated premium immigration/security point, while Silvers had a separate check in area in the main terminal but had to use the main immigration/security point.

Now it appears that Golds/Silvers in Economy both have to use the former Silver check-in area in the main terminal and cannot use the premium check in or immigration/security point.

Which just means that one of the 3 remaining benefits of Skywards Gold has been taken away as well.

At least we still have "Opening Doors" though.
You're misinterpreting the text. Nowhere does it say that Golds and Silvers have to use the same check in. It just says there is dedicated check in for those tiers.

The Silver check in can hardly cope with Silvers, would be a mess with golds there too. And the premium check in side is usually empty, though there are too many counters for F.

Wonder why EK don't go down the route of a private terminal for F. After all they'll need more check in desks once the new concourse opens.

Depends on time of day. Business can be a bit of a zoo and even at First Counters you may have to wait for one (and very occasionally two) people to check in. Personally and selfishly I would say that they can never have too many check in desks for F.

I would rather have fewer desks but a more personalized service. This is one aspect that is really poor with EK. Look at F check in on SQ out of SIN, LH out of FRA, TG out of BKK etc. It's a lot more personalized than EK's regular counters!

And at outstations it is most annoying when they call up someone from the J queue just before you walk up to the check in, and then you need to wait for that person to check in!

I'm sorry, but that's simply not true. There is NO dedicated check-in for Golds.

Yes, Silvers have a dedicated check-in, but Golds in Economy Class have to either use the Business Class counters in the premium area, or the main check-in area.
