Worth upgrading to First?

I have a flight BHX - KUL in J coming up and about 50000 miles about to expire. Rather than buying some crap from Emirates High Street was wondering if it was worth the upgrade to F. BHX - DXB only has J and Y but could upgrade one of the DXB - KUL legs.

EK 408 (Suites) on 06/04/12 is not showing any availability for upgrades on emirates site (I don't have access to expert flyer) but EK 343 (Skycruiser) on 15/04/12 is.
Is it worth using the miles for the non suites product? Are seats likely to be available nearer the time on 408. I am currently only Silver if it makes any difference. Thanks.

I normally wouldn't say it's worth it for SkyCruiser but I would definitely say it's better than using it for Emirates High Street.

Seats might be available nearer the time... but when do your miles expire?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately they expire end of this month so I can't wait right up to the last minute on the DXB -KUL flight.
The new skywards process makes it even more difficult to earn and use miles. I book most of my flights in J, don't want to take the risk of not getting a Y-J upgrade, in the past I have used large numbers of miles on full flex reward tickets - better than losing them!

Anything is better than high street. Can you not fly out of MAN instead? Even DXB-KUL wouldn't use up all the miles. And advantage ex-DXB is that you get Flounge access.

Get your upgrade on the available leg now, then if the other one opens up by month end, book that too.

I might as well ask the same question. I've always flown J, and have four flights scheduled on the A380, MAN-DXB-NRT and KUL-DXB-MAN and have the option of upgrading from J to F on a couple of flights using my accrued miles.

Now considering I'm one of those that, erm, "likes to stand up during the fight" if you catch my drift, is upgrading to F really going to be worth it considering I'll be upstairs but down the back of the plane?

At some point, you may need/want to have a wee lie down (if you catch my drift ) so F will be well worth it. And the quality of the standing up part could be so much more, given that the F crew will gladly bring the Dom down the back for you to consume...If it was me, I would do it.

But eightblack, lying down is only for those 14 hour jaunts to Sydney (9hrs at the bar beforehand ). These are relatively short hops this time!

Its a lot of miles for a couple of bottles of Dom to be honest, do they happen to have any special Malts up top?

Single malt in F is usually a Glenfiddich 21, as opposed to the 15 in J.

Would you consider selling your miles for someone else to use?
Ofcourse you would do the upgrade for them based on whatever you agree you would want for the miles....

Just a gentle reminder that the FlyerTalk TOS don't permit the discussing of selling or buying of miles...

oops, sorry did not realise...

Out of curiosity came across mention of using flight coupons for another person in another thread, is that also not permitted?
